Guest guest
Hello, and welcome to the list... I am glad to see that Jane recommended Reiki to you. One of the reasons I would recommend something like beginning Reiki, or Healing Touch, is that it is the sort of thing you can do for yourself and there is a strong spiritual base involved. In order to draw ourselves out of a depressed state, we have to have some things to anchor us, and things to lift us up as well. Spirituality is a little of both, and extends far past our religious practices. It sounds as though you have been having this problem for a very long time now, and that you are tired of suffering. Good for you. Before you start on any kind of program, why don't you go for a throrough examination with a healthcare provider of your choice. Have a blood count to check for anemia; have your blood pressure checked. Have someone evaluate your nutritional status, and check you for allergies, including food allergies. If you find that in general you are healthier than you feel, then perhaps some increased activity and nutritional supplements/herbs may help elevate your mood; there again, consult with someone reliable for personal training or medication... it's never good to try to be an armchair physician to yourself. Bear in mind, that if you have a biochemical reason for your depression, medication may be in order to " help you out of the hole " so to speak. There is nothing wrong with antidepressants; all medications have their time and place. Just be proactive and ask lots of questions about any medication a physician may want to give to you. And consider that low dose, long term therapy is easier on the body than heavy duty short term medication, even though it may take awhile before you start seeing effects. There are many therapies that have profound effects on the whole person; somatic therapies, energetic therapies, kinesthetic therapies... it is up to you what will be a good " fit " in that way. How are your boundaries? Do you like to do things alone, or with a group? Do you like to be touched, or prefer not to be? Take these things into consideration, and we can offer you some more specific recommendations for things to explore. " Wirawan H.
