Guest guest
I hope that the AHNA folks who are going to Albuquerque this month for conference mention this benefit to others. I categorize it under one of those strange kinds of miracles that the conference was moved earlier this year from the Ghost Ranch in Abiqu (which was affected) to another location. DANCING TO HELP FIRE VICTIMS: Mary Murphey -- the ex-wife of western singer Michael Martin Murphey -- is putting together a Western swing dance marathon to help people who have been displaced or are losing property because of the fires in New Mexico. Working through her ex-husband's non-profit organization, the Murphey Western Institute Foundation, Mary Murphey will present Dance Till Dawn on Aug. 12 from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. at The Taos (N.M.) Convention Center's Bataan Hall. Murphey says the event will feature five bands -- all of them volunteering their time and talent -- as well as " a few special surprise guests. " She is looking for 100-200 dancers who will dance all nine hours -- with a 15 minute break each hour. Murphey is also providing massage therapists, reflexologists, aromatherapy foot baths, oxygen, cold wash cloths, nutrition, electrolytes and water for the dancers.
