Guest guest
Dear Jennifer, Michelle, Lee, Kim, Leslie, Caroline and other friends: My humble apologies for not responding to your kind notes sooner. I have just finished a hectic month of work and am just now getting caught up on my " personal " e-mails. I couldn't even begin to explain how I came to write Bodymind at 24. It was a magical, mystical moment in history and I found myself involved in a most wondrous place - Esalen - immersed in some pretty mind-boggling activities with a colorful cast of characters. Since I hadn't yet cemented down my views on body/mind/spirit issues, in the early 70s, I simply tried to discover the truth about how these elements of life interacted. Although much of my thinking has evolved in the past decades, I stand behind most of what I concluded in Bodymind today! It's so strange to realize that a quarter century has passed since then. And you probably can't imagine how satisfying it is that Bodymind is still read in twelve languages throughout the world, and I hope....still touches people. As you may know, since I left Esalen in 1974, I have been deeply involved in an examination of the impact of the aging of America and how the impending longevity revolution will transform our lives and every aspect of civilization. I have written nine books since Bodymind, including Age Wave (a best-seller, published in 1989) and my newest Age Power: How the 21st Century Will be Ruled by the New Old (published this past September and selling very nicely). If you're interested to see how my interests have evolved from Bodymind days to now, you might enjoy reading the foreword in Age Power where I explain the unusual twists and turns of this journey. (Note: I have attached a draft of this foreword that sits within this laptop at the end of this memo) Yesterday I turned fifty and aside from the usual complaints and frustrations of middlescence, I rejoice in how well my life has turned out. I have a wonderful marriage, two spectacular children (Casey 13 and Zak 10) and a very challenging career. My mom and dad are alive and doing pretty well and aside from high cholesterol (annoying in light of the fact that I haven't eaten meat in 25 years) and a bone spur with arthritis in my right shoulder, I am in excellent physical health - aided by the fact that I have probably received more bodywork than any living human. (Question: can anyone recommend a great bodyworker in New York, Chicago and L.A.?) My life is oftentimes too busy, as I have crafted a very involved set of business and media relationships and I sometimes yearn for the quieter, simpler days of the past. However, most of the time I have to pinch myself to make sure that I'm not dreaming it all up - because its all really quite incredible. Thanks again for your kind notes and comments. I've enjoyed reading through many of the notes that have been exchanged among the group since I joined a few weeks ago. with love, Ken Please note my new address and new phone number: Ken Dychtwald, Ph.D. President and CEO Age Wave LLC 2000 Powell Street 11th floor Emeryville, CA 94608 phone 510 923-2203 fax 510 652-9051
