Years ago I read (almost positive) a Mark Twain short story, and I want to reference it in one of my courses. It was about two feuding newspaper editors who were in a horrible fight in the office...but every blow, gun shot, & knife swipe missed, but hitting Mark Twain who was just the innocent copy boy. (best as I can recall). I've looked thru all of Twain's short stories and I can't find it. Can anyone help me--keeping it ON-topic a bit, it's a great allegory for the person who insists on hanging out with the " wrong " crowd. Guest guest
Hi Folks: I am looking for the source of that famous quote that is commonly attributed to Nelson Mandela (he used it in his Inauguration Speech) or even to President Clinton (he quoted Mandela). Mandela originally got it from Williamson <LOL> but I need to know where. This is the quote I am talking about: " Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are born to make manifest the Glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone, and as we let our own light shine, we consciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. " If anybody knows where in Williamson's works this might be printed, please let me know. Thanks, Crow " Look for Rainbows in the Darkness "

Guest guest
Well, does it classify as talking to yourself, when you answer your own question? <LOL> Actually, it was answered for me by a newsletter I get, that misattributed the quote. They looked it up, and discovered that yes, it is from Marianne Williamson, from " Return to Love " . Thanks for the feedback, I was looking for it in " Miracles " too but it was taking forever (and I guess it would have taken longer than that, since it wasn't there!) ;-) Blessings, Crow > >Caroline Abreu <crow > > > >Hi Folks: > > > >I am looking for the source of that famous quote that is commonly > >attributed to > >Nelson Mandela (he used it in his Inauguration Speech) or even to President > >Clinton (he quoted Mandela). According to the following site: http://www.kirstimd.com/mandela.htm " Although this speech is frequently attributed to Nelson Mandela, for his Inaugural address in 1994, it appears that the original text was written by Marianne Williamson and appeared in her book A Return To Love. Guest guest
Caroline, I love this quote, is this weird or are you on the CWG list as well, because someone brought up that quote there too just this morning. Guest guest
CWG? No, I'm not on it... don't even know what it stands for ;-) Is it a Christian Women's group? I get an email called " Bits & Pieces " every day, from the folks who do the " Chicken Soup " books, and they had the misattributed quote in there this morning, along with another quote about fear. Maybe this other person gets that, too. They reassured me that the quote was from an older book, and that they had remedied it in revision (okaaaaaaaaay...) I would not be otherwise surprised, though, to hear of such a coincidence. That sort of thing seems to happen to me quite a bit. I just call it " synchronicity " and pay a little closer attention to things in case something else is going on I shouldn't miss :-) Isn't life wonderful? CWG is Conversations with God, as in the books by Neale Walsch, we talk about synchronicity all the time, I love it. I did hear the mention of Bits and Peices but maybe it's a synchronicity too. Have you read these books they are very similar to Marianne Williamson's . That list is also at onelist if you were interested. Kim
