Guest guest
Hi, My name is Sunny Wang. A friend of mine told me about this list and it sounded very interesting so I joined. I am an exercise therapist / personal trainer. My training back ground is more towards understanding human/client body structure and bio-mechanics and design program to fit specific needs, whether they are apparently fit or need specific consideration. I have extensive understanding of human body structure and function, and I work very closely with Chiropractors and Physical therapists. Yes, Wang is a Chinese name. I was born and raised in Taiwan until I finished college in Taiwan. So I have some experience with traditional Chinese medicine. In the past couple of years I have been working very closely with some health care professionals. I have also learned a lot about MDs and CDs from my clients, I do have very mixed feeling about certain healthcare professionals and health care system. I hope the following statements do not offend anyone on the list. I found a lot of MDs have too much ego to admit that they don't know everything. If they don't know the answer, they probably would say that " this is normal pain " or You are born with weak joints or muscles... " . MDs are trained to treat symptoms, not trained to find out what caused the problem. If you have pain, they give you pain-killers. This is my personal experience: I have bunions on both of my feet. I have surgeries performed to both of my feet. The Doc had to break the first Matatarsals of both of my feet to reset the bone. Weeks after surgery, my feet LOOKED great so I was released from anymore treatment or care. about a year later, The bottom of my feet hurt, my ankle hurt, my hip hurt and my hips were crucket. How did I find out about all these problem had to do with my feet? From my Chiropractor friend and Physical therapist friends' numorus small observations. I first found out that the bottoms of my feet hurt, I had plantar faceiatus, so I had orthotics made. Six month later, The feet got better, but one ankle did not. So I asked my Physical Therapist friend. I found out that my left arch caved in so my ankle turned in as I walk and exercise. So I needed an angled posting on my orthotics to realign my ankle. and because my ankled turned in, my left leg was about 5mm shorter. If I was not an exerciser, the condition probably wouln't have become as bad. Continuous impact activity caused my hip bone to rotate to accommendate the shorter leg, so my SI joint ached all the time and my R leg IT band was constantly inflamed being over stretched. After I started studying advanced biomechanics, I finally was able to link all this together and have my misaligned hip adjusted by my Chiropractor friend, order wedged inserts for my shoes to maitain my ankle alignment and, and be proud to say I am now pain free because I studied my body very carefully. I have been to many doctors that prescribed me pain-killer for my ankle and hip. But no one ever asked anymore questions to try to figure out why I hurt. As for my Podiatrists, I have never been back and never refered anyone to them. Now I study my clients' bodies before I prescribe them their exercise progeam. I have found out a lot of achy conditions came from structure misalignment but their MDs never say anything. alway pain-killer or " you are born with a weak back " .... Nice to see your posts once again (I'm the referring friend). Sunny and I were in a fitness discussion group together...I found her to be the most flexible of the group--to other ideas. Some of the group were really rigid (in my opinion). Many were (as is Sunny) exercise physiologists. What was a shrink doing with that kind of group? I donno, except I have a keen interest in exercise (more toward aerobics) as an alternative therapy. That's more or less why I'm here too. Suggestion to the group: Get Sunny to talk a lot...she knows her stuff. Carl http://askcarl.net
Guest guest
Sunny: This is a pretty common tale, actually. I spent years in ankle braces and thinking I had " weak ankles " when in fact I needed some somatic education on movement and body awareness. When I am paying attention to my body, I do not have problems with my feet, ankles, knees, hips, or lower back... and I am not " clumsy " . When I am tired or start falling out of correct patterns, I am a mess (I tend to " duck walk " , short steps with my knees locked and my feet pointed out). It is good that options like yours are available. I " lucked up " on a person in my Healing Touch training who was my partner at IIIA and taught me how to walk properly over a period of three days. I am not doing as much stretching as I should, however, and that helps a lot to reinforce patterns. Thanks for coming aboard to .
