Guest guest
Good Morning! Things seem to be a bit quiet lately on the list. I had primed myself for Spring, and then Winter stuck a snowball down my collar again yesterday (brrrrr!) I was wondering if folks would like to share some of their little tips and treasures for nurturing yourselves during the colder months, when the weather is raw, the heat is on, your skin is dry, and the beach looks like Antarctica? One of my favorite things to do is make soup out of whatever I can lay my hands on in the cabinets and refrigerator. I freeze tiny bits of this and that for this purpose. A soup can take all day and makes the house smell wonderful. Anybody else? -- Blessings, Crow " Look for Rainbows in the Darkness " ```````````````````````````````````

Also have various kinds of birdfeeders hanging all over the property, some fairly close to windows so I can watch all the visitors and enjoy their antics. Amazing how that raises my spirits. I live in a snow belt, so when I have a reeeeally hard core case of winter blues (usually when there's too much snow to get out and about easily) I pull out the aromatherapy oils and even test myself for appropriate flower essences. Sometimes I pull out the garden catalogs and fantasize about what new herbs to plant in the garden this year. Three days ago it got to 75 degrees here (broke all our records) and right now it is 27! Ack!!! Jen (who loves homemade lentil soup served over basmati rice)
Guest guest
Good Morning Everyone, It is a beautiful day here in British Columbia. I live on the lake so am able to see the Geese and Ducks that arrived back for the spring and summer. Friday while out walking the Dog (he really demands a Capital letter!) I saw my first Robin. It was a sure sign that spring is on its way. When it is colder and winter zaps us with a frigid blast, I like to wrap up in my favorite quilt with a good book and a mug of hot Bengal Spice tea. Putting a fire in the fireplace also is quite cathartic. If its cold but sunny, I like to go for a walk or out Cross Country skiing. Most of all, in those last glum days of winter, I try to treat myself like my own best friend. I make time for meditation, grounding and nurturing of the soul. Guest guest
Well, living in Florida here and winter blues free. Even in cold climates, one can still sit in the sunshine and that helps to rejuvenate the spirits. Guest guest
Hi all, I'm new to the list and would like to send a warm greeting out! As for the question of what to do during winter days, sounds like all my favorites have been mentioned already: hot tea, fires, warm, soothing baths with oils (with dried rosebuds & lavendar)...I also really enjoy camping and hiking in the winter. I live in Seattle, so it doesn't get TOO cold here. And anything that gets me out of the house, into the mountains, and under the stars is definately a good thing! Guest guest
Winter's not a bad time for gardeners. From January to March, there's a zillion seed catalogs to examine. All the while, you see that next year's garden. Now, in March, there's the seedlings to tend. So far, just one Morning Glory and a couple of tomatoes, but soon...... >Talks-withtrees > > >Re: Quiet List & Winter Blues >Sun, 12 Mar 2000 18:05:18 -0500 (EST) > >Well, living in Florida here and winter blues free. Guest guest
LOL... I wish I still had plants to put out for the spring, I'm going to have to start over, thanks to my feline companions, Kanji and Venus, who commandeered my plants and proceeded to eat all they could and lay on the rest when I brought them inside to winter! Now I have nothing but straggly bits of pithy wood extruding from some pots, and some were shaven clean to the potting soil. It would have been more fair to the plants if I'd let them battle the snow... Thankfully, none of them were poisonous. But did you know a cat would eat aloe vera? ;-) I can well imagine what would happen to any tree brought into the apartment; I deferred a Christmas tree this year for just that reason, visualizing the hairy little children swinging ecstatically from its odiferous branches (do cats eat *evergreens*?). Guest guest
Hi all Just thought I would throw another light on the matter.... I am 30 weeks pregnant with my second child... and burning up in the heat of Africa's summer... way down here in very sunny Cape Town South Africa!!! How about sending some of your snow my way!!!! As to winter... well.. it gets cold and wet... but only snows on the mountains.. problem is that we don't have all that internal heating... so we do feel the cold... and dripping rain... so we light fires....play funny games with great friends... pea soup, and my all time favourite... GLUWEIN!!!!! ( a red wine that has been warmed with spices, honey etc...for those who don't know!) Nothing like a good red wine in the system... or brandy to warm the soul!!... not that I can do that this winter... will be breast feeding... and can't stand any for of alcohol while preggy or breast feeding!!! So this winter it will be winter woolies and a snuggle with hubby! A good alternative... is also to have 4 warm cats!!! Love and sunny blessings to all. Guest guest
Hello List.... My idea is a strange one (as most of my ideas are). I come home from work and turn one to two lights on in every room. It elevate my electric bill but most important, it elevates my sprits to be able to walk from room to room in the light.
