Hello all -- EMDR is the " eye movement " thing that you've been talking

about. It stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It

was developed by Dr Francine Shapiro who made the chance observation that

eye movements can reduce the intensity of disturbing thoughts under certain

conditions. EMDR was first used to treat victims of trauma. EMDR seems to

have a direct effect on the way that the brain functions. For more info,

the EMDR International Association has a website: www.emdria.org.

I am completing my certification training in Interactive Guided Imagery

with the Academy for Guided Imagery (www.interactiveimagery.com). Dr.

David Bresler, one of the co-directors, is a health psychologist and

acupuncturist who founded and formerly served as director of the UCLA Pain

Control Unit. He and Dr. Marty Rossman developed the Interactive Guided

Imagery process. While EMDR has nothing to do with Interactive Guided

Imagery, Dr Bresler uses EMDR in his own practice with some clients and

reports consistently positive results, particularly with healing past

traumatic events.

Okay, going back to lurking. I'm enjoying the recent increase in activity

on the list. BTW, I'm an RN, massage therapist, Reiki practioner, do

polarity and TT, and now incorporate Interactive Guided Imagery in my work

with clients. Blessings all. -- Bea

Thank you, Bea, for explaining EMDR (and thanks to the other folks that

helped me clarify eye movement therapy).

I'm enjoying the increased buzz around here, too :-)
