Guest guest
I once read about a mom who was abducted by teenagers who stole her car and planned to do her harm, but when she put aside her fear and began to address them as she would her own teenagers (with forgiveness and love in her heart -- which was VERY difficult, but she figured she had nothing to lose, since she was sure they intended to kill her, and showing her fear had not HELPED the situation) -- they eventually let her go. I can't find my copy of " Fire in the Soul " by Joan Borysenko, to confirm whether it was in this book. It might have been in " A Return to Love " by Marianne Williamson. Unfortunately, I don't have a knack for remembering EXACTLY where I've read something, so it may be neither. Sorry if this is more confusing than helpful, but the message is in agreement with the statement that it is more effective for the victim to recognize the humanity of the one overpowering them, than vice versa. Hope this two cents helps. Sharon
Guest guest
In a message dated 99-11-14 04:51:13 EST, you write: << Hi Robert, I think I know what you're getting at but what is it that you need to know specifically? Lucille >> I am looking to find who wrote that such a strategy would be effective.. The origonal post.. " I have heard discussion of but, where is it written, that if under duress, ie a hostage situation, a potential rapist or other such scenarios, one should try to distract the one with power over, by way of getting them to acknowledge your humanity, thus making you more than just an object? Can you help me here??? Robert A Student of Life " I don't think it would be hostage negotiating because that is between the person holding the hostage and someone outside the situation. Thanks for the memory button-pushing suggestion that it was 'Silence of the Lambs'. It was not that but, if ny memory serves me correctly, it was a news magazine story involving a hostage situation in the Congo(Zaire).. Any other suggestions??
