For those who are about to read my reply, please insure that you are fully aware

of the dialogue exchange that has occurred between Anita and Lisa.

I manage three lists and have to deal with topics that arise which sometimes

vary from the " intent " of the list. I don't have a problem with this simply

because it allows us to act on a more " personal " level. If someone is willing to

share a zodiacal sign, private moment, or insight they have had, it is likely

that we, as a group, can learn even more than would be possible with a strictly

" on-topic " List. In other words, I respect that each of my lists is a community,

a group of diverse individuals with varying interests that are merely a small

aspect of their primary reason for belonging to my lists. Put simply, the topics

of discussion are not always " right on " with the primary mission of the list.

To address the issue that is the focus of this posting, Lisa and others has

expressed an interest in their zodiacal signs and how closely it relates to each

of them. Caroline, THIS lists owner went so far as to establish an " off list "

survey. These surveys will generally minimize the continuance of given threads

(in this case, the Zodiac).

Anita took offense that Lisa suggested using the " delete " key to avoid such

subjects (which is what I have often done on the lists that I do own/manage.)

The problem I have with Anita's posting is the mention " to treat people with no

respect " . No matter how I look at it, from whatever perspective, I don't see the

lack of respect. To see disrespect, or any other intent in the sentence " Using

your delete key would be a good start ... :) is a stretch. Perhaps the real

issue here is why anyone would feel disrespect at such a statement. And if there

IS a valid reason, please enlighten me. I just don't see it. When I originally

read Lisa's suggestion, I saw it as nothing more than that: a suggestion. I fail

to see the disrespect.

This post is NOT to denegrate Anita or anyone else who may have felt as she did.

It is not intended to belittle the reactions to statements made. It is nothing

more than MY viewpoint being expressed with a hope WE can all arrive at some

form of understanding. Over-reaction is a matter of personal perspective that

negates the very words " over-reaction " . What some of us may perceive as

over-reacting may be nothing more than another person's normal-reaction. Who's

to decide? Personally, I don't have enough wisdom to accept the task.

Do no harm in action, word, or intent,

Manny
