Someone on another list said they wrote their own Reiki manual-- that each

Reiki master in their lineage had done the same. I asked:

I applaud the research you did and the work that went into producing your

own

Reiki manual. You have taken what you learned and have made it your own, and

then this is what you pass on to your students. And in your Reiki lineage,

it

is the tradition for each Reiki Master to do this. This leads me to my

question.

In order to satisfy copyright requirements, each manual should be different

from every other. I assume you mean that each manual is different, and not

simply a copy of the ones before. That would mean that there are as many

versions of Reiki and how to teach it as there have been Masters in that

particular lineage. Multiply that by all the various lineages, and you come

out with quite a few versions! This reminds me of Reflexology charts. Each

one is slightly different from all the rest, because of that same copyright

problem. So, when you look at a reflexology chart, you might see the reflex

points for the sinuses on the tips of the toes on one chart, and on the sole

of the foot on another. Where *is* the point-- really? And does it matter?

When Phyllis Furomoto brought all the Reiki Masters together at the same

time, for the first time, they discovered that they were all using different

symbols. For whatever reason, when they were originally attuned and taught,

they were given individual symbols to use. At that meeting, all the symbols

for all the masters were standardized, and we have the standard set of

symbols today. Or do we? As the symbols and all the rest of the teachings of

Reiki have been passed down, and variations according to each person's

personality have been added and removed-- what is Reiki and what is not

after

all these years?
