Hi,

A great write up on the Throat Chakra caroline, I must look at the others.

Can I give it to my students :-) In Polarity Therapy we look in depth at

the elements associated with a chakra to deepen our understanding of it.

Below is a short excerpt on the ether element chapter (the element that

relates to the throat chakra- sound/vibration as you termed it) from a book

called Quinta-Essentia writtten by my partner Morag Campbell. Just some

more food for thought. Its worth also considering the relationship through

the element related to this chakra of our daily issues of Time and Space

and their management (or perhaps more aptly mis-management)

excerpt begins

THE ETHER ELEMENT AND COMMUNICATION

By now I don't have to tell you how important this element is in our need

for self expression. The other elements that we have looked at have a

quality associated to the voice whereby we might recognise them. Ether does

not have a quality per say, but it affects the voice very directly. We can

tell if a person has trouble with this particular element. If ether is not

acknowledged then the throat will be constricted and the voice will sound

cracked, broken and strained. The person may frequently need to clear their

throat as if they have something stuck in it ,which in deed they do. It is

amazing how large and difficult words seem when we cannot relax the throat

and let them just roll out. Sometimes the restriction is so severe that the

person can only speak in a very weak voice scarcely above a whisper. This

can also be a reflection of the belief that we do not deserve to be here,

that we are unimportant ie: not owning our space which is our right to

exist. With these kinds of feelings we have no right to speak out either.

The restriction of the voice can also sometimes be heard with a slightly

nasal quality caused by tension in the soft palate of the mouth. It sounds

as if we have a head cold. Here the voice is held up in the head and not

allowed to descend to the chest and this can be a reflection of an

inability to, or fear of, expressing our emotions or our heart felt

feelings. We disempower the voice by restricting the air flow from the

lungs which add power and volume to the voice.

The converse of this, of course, is a throat, mouth and jaw that is

relaxed. Provided that the rest of the body, including the diaphragm, is

also open the voice has a clear resonant quality to it as it is able to

make good use of the natural spaces or resonating chambers that are

available to it such as the head, sinuses and chest. It is warm, well

rounded and pleasant to listen to and because it is unrestricted carries

along way. It is a voice that every stage actor or public speaker needs to

perfect. It conveys an aura of self assurance and confidence and of course

it means that the speaker is able to be heard - a very important part of

any communication process.

We need to be in touch with ether every time that we open our mouth but

especially at times when we need to express ourselves strongly or when we

have to address a group and have to project our voice to the back of a

large room. Also, whenever we want to convey an air of self assurance - in

fact all the time!!

I have had bruxism all my life. It has caused me to get tmj and other

physical problems. I have post traumatic stress disorder and I do believe

that bruxism comes from stress. I do energy therapy and have worked on my

throat chackra and do meditation to help the anxiety. Calcium and magnisium

does help to relax the muscles in the body. It has helped my muscle spasms

very much. I believe when I learned to relax that helped my grinding of my

teeth. I have also used aromatherapy

to help relax the muscles. Lavender and chamamile are good relaxing essential

oils.

Chamamile the herb also helps relax muscles. Maybe this will help you

Can we discuss bruxism/teeth grinding as it relates to

the 5th chakra. I'm pretty sure I have this - what

can be done to relieve the cause and also

immediately...

I have read that magnesium supplements help relax the

muscles; my acupuncturist recommends self-shiatsu of

the face and the homeopathic belladona (9c or 30c [if

can't find lower dose] - 3 pellets, 3 times a day);

and I know you can buy dental guards to wear at night.

Is this just a form of stress... I was thinking of

opening my mouth more - singing (possible getting a

tape set from Sounds True) ...and journalling

feelings.

Try a Craniosacral Therapy session, it's very effective in relieving

bruxism. Supplementing Calcium and Magnesium is also very important.

Take care,

Craniosacral Therapy is an osteopathic technique to normalize the

tone of the periferal nervous system by influencing the rhythm of

the cerebrospinal fluid pumps. It's taught by the Upledger Institute

and some other teachers as well.

Bye for now,

Leonor
