Nice information Crow. I liked it. Could you tell wich of all those books

that surround you are outstanding to you? (Well, I hope you could get out of

this piles of book and that they don't surround you any more ;-)

I'd like to bring some exercises for a healthier Muladhara Chakra.

Please excuse my english, but it's a bit hard for me to explain exercises in

that language.

(Also, most exercises will adrress more than one thing…)

I have had Barbara Brennan's book in my hands the other day, and though I

have not read it, I can remember some exercises for the base chakra: they

made plenty of sense as they are very " pelvic floor " oriented. (I hope

someone more informed will complete any missing information)

.. exercise 1: with legs wide open, more than the usual shoulders width, lift

up and lower the body. That should exercise the pelvic region pretty much.

.. exercise 2: same legs position, body lowered, bring the pelvis back and

front, exercising the hip join.

I have that idea that any exercise on the pelvic floor and hip join is work

on the base chakra. Don't know if that is really true, but that means a lot

of exercises:

.. yoga's half and full butterfly to open the hips, with all its variations.

All exercises with legs wide open, being it sitted or standing, where you

stretch to touch your feet with hands, or bringing the head to the knees.

All exercises that open the hips, like lying on your back and bending knees

so that soles would be face to face, and letting gravity make its jobs. This

can be done face down too.

Standing postures are good too, I think, in that you can not have a good

posture without a good foundation, that is, when you work on that, you are

working on the base chakra, though you might actually giving your attention

to feet, knees, legs, hips, pelvis… the tadanasa (tree pose) is good. Only

that it could require someone to give orientations…

There is a tree-alike exercise, that I have been told is very used in

Healing Touch, that I like very much: standing, imagine you are a tree and

feel yourself grounded, imagine roots spreading from the feet and getting

into the ground. The quality and type of the visualization is relative to

the quality of one's " earth element " /Base Chakra, so working on growing

roots is working on that chakra, like calling yourself to develop that. The

idea is to develop the roots, to feel grounded, to feel the energy being

sucked by the roots. I like to feel the roots are not only in feet but also

along the legs and up to the pelvis and sacrum. One's feelings in the feet,

legs, pelvis and spine can be pretty interesant, diferent from the usual. It

should be made repeatedly to develop the roots and grounding. (it make good

use of time at the bus stop doing it). The exercise goes on with other

things, and you can integrate the other elements too (fire, air and wind)

but maybe someone better informed and with better english skills could tell

about it.

Base chakra corresponds to the eart element which corresponds to the bones

and skin. Regular dry skin brushing helps.

In Polarity therapy, there is an exercies calles the pyramid, that is very

good for that, and I happen to have John Chitty and Mary Louise Muller's

excelent book " Energy Exercises " on my desk, so I will tell you a bit more

about it, but before that, I'd like to say something more about the earth:

it corresponds to the neck, bowels and knees (earthly zodiac signs) as well

to the little fingers of hands and feet, so a way to balance that element,

which corresponds to the base chakra, is to equilibrate these body parts.

Neck, bowels and knees correpond to the three polarities: postiive, negative

and neutral. Contacting each pole with each other helps balance the

elements.

Put one hand on one of the body segments (neck, bowels or knees) and the

other hand on one of the other. Activate the energy interchange by slightly

moving one hand and then the other one. It is not massage, just activation,

slight pressure, only skin should move. When you feel complete with one

contact, swith hands, then move to another combination. Make all posible

combinations (neck/bowels, neck/knees, knees/bowels), one side first then

the other (for example on the right side frst, then on the left side). That

can be done by one on himself, or by another person.

To help get better energy flowing for a chakra you can contact the chakra to

its fingers. Put one hand on the chakra zone, and get the little finger of

some of the hands or feet in the other hand, active the current at fingers

with movement, light massage, and then or before (the way you like it) at

the chakra in the same way as described in the previous manipulation(¿).

Make all fingers.

Though this looks more like a one on another practice, I have tried it on

myself just conecting fingers to the chakra and visualizing the energy flow.

I don't really know if it worked for that, but it felt like it did.

That is pretty efective for my wife when she is menstruating, only that in

this case I do it with the water chakra (2nd one) and corresponding body

segments, I just mention it so you can know t's been tried ;-)

Now to the pyramide. Everyting now is copied from the mentioned book:

>>> Many teachers consider this the most artful of all Dr. Stone's " easy

streching postures " . This exercise releases the hips, pelvis and shoulders,

elongates the spine and opens the diaphragm. Virtually all the major

pathways of energy are activated, with a simple posture that is quick and

easy to do in any situation.

Method: Beginners will benefi from preparation before doing [it]. (snip) To

begin, stand with the feet wider apart than the width of the shoulders. Lean

forward, placing the palms of the hands (fingers outside, thumbs inside) on

the thighs, just above the knees, and rtansfer the weight of the body from

the legs to the shoulders. We are creating a " suspension bridge " with the

arms as posts and the shoulders as cables. As you drop into the suspended

position, adjust the feet a little wider to create a 90 degrees angle at

both ankle-floor and upper leg-lower leg. The knees the arms and back should

be quite parallel to the thighs. The shoulders should be up toward the ears.

Lean forward and push the knees out with the hands to emphazise the

suspension.

Once you have the posture right, experiment with gentle movement, either

pulsing *very lightly* up and down or rocking from side to side. Then come

to standing and take a momento to experience the results of the posture.

(snip ) After you are familiar with the posture, check these points for fine

tuning ( they were: pelvic and shoulders, inner thighs). Make sure the

gluteal muscles and lower back are relaxed: the full weight of the torso

should be on the hands and knees. Feel the spine hanging in full

suspension, lenghtening from its own wight. Make sure the back and arms are

straight.

(snip .. .)

(some of the Benefits)

.. General tension release: the Pyramid is one of the best postures for

overall energy balancing.

.. Stimulates circulation of cerebro-spinal fluid

.. Opens pelvic basin, allowing energy to flow up and down the legs. This is

rejuvenating, good for circulation and has a grounding effect.

.. on the level of energy theory, all asystems are engaged: it is a good

companion for Energy Balancing bodywork, accelerating energy movement in a

way which would otherwise require deep contact.

Etc.

>>>> End of quotes

And also, from " Relationships and the Human Energy Field " by John and Anna

Chitty: (not textual)

The Earth Chakra has correspondence with the Fear, Anxiety, self-protection

and Boundaries.

Its primary quality is Self protection, its focus is material ( " I have " ).

When balanced (neutral) its qualities are: Protecting, supporting,

respecting, grounded, stable, able to let go, accepting limits.

When too much expanded (Yang): Walls against involvement, invulnerable,

paranoid, defensive, resistant, self-concealing, hypervigilan

When too little contracted (Yin): No boundaries, too vulnerable,

self-doubting, overly sensitive, defensive, frozen, anxious.

Disfunction in the " Boundaries " (alias base chakra) manifest as " profound

victim " or " major offender "

No boundaries= No discrimination, no self-protection

Hope this can be of some help to someone. I hope to hear from others.

Nope, I don't manage all that information, I just happen to have read it…

Hello everybody,

I am interested too, this was definitely a good idea.

But... I propose that we dedicate more time to each Chakra in order to let

things happen. If we thrive at the speed of one or two days by chakra it is

probable that not much discusion will happen for each one as it is just the

time to read the first post and answering it. Not much time for processing

whatever comes back and feedbacking to the list. I propose a one week time

on each chakra or whatever the flow of information would indicate.

Maybe i want too much, but i am expecting that more stuff could be said on

that first chakra here, after all, there has been some feedback and the

subject isn't finished. I know this list has talented people on it,

therapist or not, and well, the idea of chatting about a chakra, in my idea,

should also be about its use for health. Add that... i don't know much, but

i am sure there is plenty to say...

Don't mean to cut or stop anything, just eager to learn more...

Have a nice day everybody

I agree with Alain about spending more time on each chakra. At least a

week per chakra. I would like for a discussion to occur including

personal experiences with the issues associated with each chakra. Also

thanks for the exercises. They're great.

I'd also like to invite anyone interested to check out Caroline Myss's

website. She has a discussion forum at her site where people can post

and discuss energy medicine, etc. topics:
