Guest guest
Greetings: This post is the beginning of the discussion we have talked about regarding the energy centers or chakras. The Root or Base Chakra Location: at the base of the spine and opens out between the legs in the perineum, facing the ground. Spinal Nerve Plexus: Coccygeal Glands: Adrenals Body Parts: Legs, Buttocks, Bones (structure & support) Sanskrit Name: Mulad hara Element: Earth Color Vibration: Red Keynote Vibration: Middle C Focus: Grounding, Safety and Survival Stones: Red stones (garnet, ruby, etc) Incense: Cedar Foods: Proteins Affirmations: I am Present, I am Safe, I am Thriving Disorders: hemorrhoids, constipation/diarrhea, obesity, depression, dissociation, attention deficit, clumsiness, bone disorders, sciatica, knee problems, foot problems, failure to thrive, weakness, paranoia, multiple personality, sociopathy When we are well connected to the earth and our root chakra is functioning properly, we feel secure, grounded, well connected to our bodies and aware that we are alive. Some manifestations of a blocked or malfunctioning root may be minor, such as clumsiness (repeated injuries to knees and ankles, stubbing toes, for instance) and some may be very severe, such as loss of moral filters (sociopathy) or bone disorders like osteomalacia or osteoporosis. Obesity may be due to subconscious attempts to ground through eating, or weight the body down. In order to keep the root healthy, it is important to focus on the positive aspects of being alive and present in an incarnate body, consume nutrients in a conscious way, and allow ourselves time and privacy to eliminate properly. If clumsiness is a problem, paying attention to the mechanics of movement may be useful; Tai Chi or martial arts training, yoga or gymnastics can support the root. Walking barefoot, sitting on the ground, and communing with nature are all helpful to renew our attachment to the earth element, and wearing the color red, especially as underwear or footwear, can assist in grounding. When doing healing work with the root, music in the key of C, along with red filtered light or red gemstones will support the process. I was interested to read the traditional Indian correspondances also include animals (someone mentioned this from a class, and this is probably the tradition they are drawing from). The " root animals " in that tradition are the elephant, ox, and bull. So, I'm sitting here with all my books around me, and I'm waiting for anything else anyone might add from their own sources, or questions we might toss around about the root or base chakra, how to keep it healthy, and exploring the disorders more. -- Blessings, Crow " Look for Rainbows in the Darkness " -- Caroline Abreu, BS, RN, CHTP/I, CRMT B*A*L*A*N*C*E Awakening the Inner Healer with " A Nurturing Touch " http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Spa/5114/ Some people see a closed door and turn away. Others see a closed door, try the knob, and if it doesn't open... they turn away. Still others see a closed door, try the knob, if it doesn't open, they find a key, and if the key doesn't fit, they turn away. A rare few see a closed door, try the knob, if it doesn't open, they find a key, and if it doesn't fit... they make a new one that does. Guest guest
The so-called Root Chakra stems from the Hindu belief (borrowed later by the Chinese) that as a foetus develops, the brain begins first, then the spinal cord grows from it. The belief is that the qi, power, whatever-name-each-person-calls it moves from brain down through the spinal cord to the base of it, because that is what develops last. Originally, this was called the Seat of Kundalini, pictured as a snake-goddess wrapped around the base of the spine. The object of Kundalini yoga, for example, is to raise that " 'power " back up the spine into the brain and ultimately out of the highest chakra on the top of the head.....which brings total enlightenment. Over the years the chakras has taken on so much baggage from various teachers that most of the original beliefs and practices are long gone. Same with acupuncture. So if you want to do true Kundalini yoga, you imagine that energy, get a fix on it, work on it, and begin raising it up your spine. It's a lot of visualizationwhich also results in a feeling of heat moving up trough the spinal canal. b

Guest guest
Hello everyone, I was wandering and I know this isn't a weight loss list. But since where talking about the chakra's and things associated with them. Does the root chakra play a key part in weight maybe in a sub- concious way or do any of the other chakras. Like is there any kind of music or colors that might would help someone from craving foods all the time. Or could I be out of balance and am trying to use food as a way to fill some kind of void. Any enlightment would be greatly appreciated. Blessings and love, Leslie >The Root or Base Chakra Location: at the base of the spine and opens out between the legs in the perineum, facing the ground. Guest guest
Caroline, Thanks so much for posting the info about the Root Chakra. I liked the format and have copied it to my personal files. Did you have one source for all of this? I'm interested in what book or books you're using. I find the Chakra info very interesting, it seems foreign, yet very familiar. I've definitely resisted Chakras in the past and feel that it's because of my upbringing and culture. Will you be posting the next Chakra today? Interested, Carolyn Mudgette

Guest guest
Carolyn: I have a pile of books on chakras I reference, and one mysterious handout I got at a long-ago workshop that has no attribution :-) The main books I use are: " Wheels of Light " by Rev. Rosalyn Bruyere " Wheels of Life " by Anodea Judith " The Chakras " by C.W. Ledbeater (sp) " Hands of Light " by Barbara Brennan " Joy's Way " by Dr. Brugh Joy If I could pinpoint a good source, though, I'd go with Anodea Judith's book, which has meditations, correspondences, and other interesting things. It's been around for quite a while (1988). Dora Kunz also has a book on chakras, with illustrations that have been liberally (and I imagine illegally, since I saw no attribution) borrowed by this website: http://www.crystalinks.com/chakra_balancing.html The site is using them as the buttons for the chakra information, and they represent what she " sees " when she looks at the energy centers. Another very attractive chakra site is http://www.healer.ch/Chakras-e.html Considering my Southern Baptist background, I suppose I would normally have more questions about the validity of the subtle energy system; but my father was a radical sort of preacher <LOL> He believed that I should read anything I wanted to, and regularly bought me books on comparative religion, metaphysics, astrology and paganism at the used bookstore if I asked for them. He bought me my first book that mentioned chakras, " Intermediate Studies of the Human Aura " by Djwal Kul. I think it is important to keep an open mind and trust our intuition about any information that comes to us; that is not to say we should be accepting of anything that comes along, but discerning and flexible.
