Actually, there is a video you might be able to find at your library, or obtain,

by Shirley McLain, on the chakras.

There are also a lot of pretty decent websites that have good information on the

chakras. Do a websearch on " chakra healing " and you'll come up with a slew of

options that will keep you happily surfing all afternoon.

If anyone would like to post some simple meditations in the shared file area,

you

can send it to me as a plain text file and I'll put it in. Right now there are

a

couple of things there (like the FAQ) but there is plenty of room for some small

files that could be shared by the group (like articles on holism, meditations,

etc... anything but spam)

Hi Owllights and Crow --

Today is the first time I've seen this list, but I can't resist adding my two

cents here! There is a wonderful cassette tape done by Anodea Judith which is a

chakra meditation....it takes you through each chakra one by one doing creative

visualization, and the music (a heartbeat rhythm for the 4th chakra, etc) is

fabulous also. It takes about 45 minutes to do the whole visualization, or you

could just work with whatever area concerns you most. I'm sure you could order

it through your favorite alternative bookstore, or directly from the publisher:

(800) 446-4962.

And Anodea Judith's three books on the chakra system are some of the best

written material around. I recommend her stuff very highly.

Peace and light.

HI list.

God do you people get active posting on week ends! ;-)

Thank you Cris for telling us about your way to the chakras. It is

interesant to see how some people are " ready " to see things. Your story

sounded very simple, nothing complicated at all (I mean… I kinda expected a

long story). Yeah, some people we always expect that things have to cost a

lot. (Anybody want to make some wise comments about why " No pain no gain " is

a myth? I have never read the explanation…)

I have a book from the Bihar School of Yoga (founded by Swami Sathyananda,

disciple of Sivananda as is Vishnudevananda, mentioned some digests ago)

where there is a bunch of meditations that are all succesive steps to the

awareness of the more subtle bodies. It seems very simple when you read it.

And very simple in concept too: the bodies are there, you are not aware of

them but you can be, just imagine, and sometime, the perception will take

over the imagination. Simple process. The practice is harder. Requires time

and dedication. I haven't been able to " make time " for it. I always have the

idea that I'll get more serious about my yoga practice " anyday " … Now, it is

the first time I speak (so to say) with someone that indeed sees something.

That makes it more interesant.

That's what Crow has indicated too:

> At first, it is much easier to visualize that you are seeing them, this is

a way of tapping into

> your intuition. The truth of it is that what you are *imagining* is

closely

> related to the reality. Your mind will rest and allow you to *imagine*.

It would

> question real vision as hallucination unless you were very used to seeing

auras or

> completely insane <LOL>

I can see that what makes it so hard for me is that little tricky thing

about putting the mind to rest. Yep. ;-)

> or we could start a discussion about the major chakras one by one,

> starting with the root or base chakra, and when we are finished with

> the major ones, talk about some of the minor ones

> (like the hands, feet, spleen and thymus). What do you think?

Great! I'd love that. That would allow great comments I am sure.

I would still love to hear about the big system in itself. I have a pretty

good image, I guess, from Polarity Therapy as described by Frankyn Sills in

his book (title not recalled). There he explains how the energy goes from

the subtlest to the densest through the chakra machinery (my words), but

still, I would like to know more, like, you know…(twisting my lips here, :-/

I am out of words… I DON'T KNOW and that's the thing. This whole chakra

thing looks terrific, but I can't seem to really grasp the whole concept. I

would love to know what it is for, but then I tell me: is it FOR something?

Of course not. It's just there. Right? I mean, it probably is like a hand,

or the mouth: it is there, for whatever I happen to do with it. Or no?

(sigh…) Any comments on this whole subject welcomed.

LOL.... Alain.

Did you ever get to look at " Hands of Light " by Barbara Brennan? She has some

very easy

to read explanations of the entire bioenergetic field, field theory, the levels

of the

aura and the chakras themselves.

Barring that, let's talk about it. The human energy field is the energetic

precursor of

the physical body. In bioenergetic theory, it is just as much a part of your

being as

your hands or eyes or organs, but it is not as easily visible to " normal " vision

and

palpation because of the rapid vibrational level of the ions at that level. Any

disorder

that manifests in the physical can ideally be found and corrected at the

energetic level

first, because the physical body is so much slower that the problem has been

there in the

aura, if you were able to find it, for a long time previous to it " settling in "

as a

disease, pain, or problem.

There are levels of the aura that correspond to the energetic vibrations of each

of the

major chakras. Some levels are denser than others, some more colorful. At the

fifth

level of the aura (the level corresponding to the throat chakra) there is an

etheric

template which holds a sort of DNA stencil of your body in its " perfect " form.

Even if

you lose organs, teeth, body parts, etc. they will still be there in the etheric

template

(have you heard of people having phantom pain?)

We are much more than the sum of our parts. I have good days and bad days with

describing

the aura and the body as machinery, but because of the electrical nature of it,

the

analogy is very tempting. If you think of the body as an electrical machine,

then the

meridians are like wires, the brain and spinal cord is the main electrical

cable/conduit

whose correlation is the shushumna channel and the major chakras (each chakra

corresponds

to a major spinal nerve plexus). The field around the body would be a carefully

structured

matrix of rapid function fiberoptics that supports, protects and manifests the

slower

moving parts encased within it. Damage or block one wire, one plexus, one

segment of

fiberoptics, and the entire structure can malfunction or cease function. Does

this make

more sense? The system is not just " as " important as the body... in a way, it

is much

" more " important.

Well Crow, thanks a bunch for these kind explanations.

Ho. Yes, i had it in my hands, but couldn't afford it yet. You recomended it

to me some time ago on the bodywork list, if i ain't wrong. :]

> Barring that, let's talk about it. The human energy field is the

(snip)

Ok. Nice description. It does bring some new things for me. That's the whole

picture, and i will try to get that book now... What i wonder about is if

there is some more detailed explanation of all this (which for sure there

is, but where?)

For example, each chakra has its element, which in turn corresponds to

mental/emotional/physical aspects. Suposedly, by asociation, you can work on

any aspect on any level with its correspondences on any other level, so you

can work your anger with a physical exercise, or you can do something about

that stiffness in your hips looking for something in the emotional domain...

right?

i had a book (shouldn't have borrowed it...) from Louise Hay, where she made

a correspondence between physical and mental/emotional for every part of the

body. That was quite interesant. Still, i couldn't see a pattern for it when

crossing the information with the chakra stuff, and that's where my wonders

are i guess: a part of the body seems to posibly be a bunch of diferent

things depending on the aproach you take. I would like to know if those who

know about this stuff have a clear and concise correspondence list or if

that is too much to ask. (My work with computers desn't make room for too

many alternatives, normally, and this turns into a mind (mine) that requires

*precise* links - as i have seen until now, the rest of the world isn't

quite like that... but somehow i always look for that...)

Another question i have is regardind the Chakras' petals. They are always

decribed, with symbol and everything, but nothing more (for me at least,

until now). I wonder if these flow of energy from the chakras are all alike

or if they in turn correspond with diferent aspects of it (my guess).

Anybody has anything about that?

Can you tell me what associations there are with the heart and throat

chakras? I have severe blocks at both those points in the body -

emotional blocks, but with physical symptoms (just being very aware of

both areas - like a weight on or under my sternum, and a tightness in my

throat like a tight collar).

These physical sensations have become more apparent as I've been working

on stuff.

thanks, as always.

Arabella:

Bear in mind that this information is rather a conglomeration from a set of

sources, and

includes a bit of intuition and experience. I also have physical stress

reactions in

those areas, especially when I am feeling " overwhelmed " so I have some personal

reference

for this.

Your chakras have a stronger " feeling " aspect in the front, and a stronger

" will " aspect

in the back. If a " feeling " aspect is " put behind you " you will find that the

effort of

will it takes to suppress it will manifest in back pain in the associated

chakra.

Similarly, when you are getting a lot of back work, feelings/symptoms may " come

up " and

emerge through the associated chakra in the front.

That said, you can look at the heart as the great transformer for the major

chakras. It

is the fourth chakra, the mediator between the physical chakras (solar plexus,

sacral and

root) and the spiritual chakras (throat, brow, and crown). It is the center of

unconditionality, acceptance and love, both for others and for self. It is

especially

important in thoracic function, circulation, heart and lung function, the

breasts, and the

lymphatics. It is associated with immune function (thymus).

The throat center is the communication center, and controls all communication,

both in and

out (mouth and throat voice apparatus, and ears). It also controls the

flexibility of the

neck, the metabolism (thyroid) and again, lymphatics (tonsils/adenoids). With

the heart,

it shares responsibility for the flexibility and function of the arms. The

heart handles

the energy aspect, and the throat the expressive aspect.

Now.... that said, if you are having a spell of chest heaviness and tightness in

the

throat, you might make sure that you are physically okay before you begin

examining

possible emotional causation. If you know that you are heart healthy, then you

might

explore the possibility that as the issues are coming up (frustration, inability

to

express issues constructively if at all, problems with self love/acceptance

possibly

related to a period of stagnation or loss). You may feel a deep urge to scream.

This is

natural, and would serve to open up both the chest, with the breath, and the

throat, with

the emotive noise. I plan to take the car out tonight to the seashore and let

her rip

<LOL> This is an exercise often recommended to people who have suffered the loss

of a

loved one.

Before you begin to have painful shoulders or arms, or a progression to pain in

your chest

and neck, it would be good to process your feelings that are coming up with an

expressive

task, like journalling, or an art form you can give yourself permission to do

without

being " perfect " at it. Pounding clay, splashing paint, scribbling with crayons.

Also, you might try wearing clothing in cooler colors, such as green and blue,

to

accentuate the vibrations of those chakras and soothe them. Try butterfly

stretches, and

deep breaths. Make a heating pad by sewing two dishtowels together into a sack

and

filling it with rice. Throw it in the microwave for two minutes, put a drop or

two of

your favorite essential oil on it, and lie down with the pack on your sternum.

Take deep,

slow breaths, and hug the pack if you like. If you feel emotions welling up,

you can let

that happen. Tears are the body's cleansers.

Good luck with your process... I'm having something similar, and haven't had it

for

several years but recognize the signs (especially the frustration) and I'm

working at it.
