Barbara Kimsey e-mailed me privately about journaling and in the spirit of

journaling, I wrote a bunch back to her and decided to snip this portion and

send it to the list. Spiriual journaling classes are few and far between. If

anyone hears of a class, please let the list know.

<<There are several books that would be wonderful to try. The hard part about

journaling is getting started and that's exactly why this has happened to me,

it's time for me to get started again. The last time I seriously journaled, I

used a techniqued called morning pages from The Artist's Way : A Spiritual Path

to Higher Creativity by Julia Cameron. The book is great to have, but not

absolutely necessary. First thing in the morning, write three pages longhand. I

would do this after I fed the dog and got my coffee. Sometimes it was hard to do

that many pages, but I had revelations and a-has and it helped me a lot. I would

usually finish up by writing affirmations like " My practice is prosperous and

fulfilling " and " Every dollar that I spend is returned to me multiplied " . Of

course it is. I own these things.

Some folks like a Natalie Goldberg book called Writing Down the Bones. I've not

read it myself, but it's got a great reputation. My personal favorite is Journal

to the Self : 22 Paths to Personal Growth by Kathleen Adams. This book has

techniques that can be used that are fabulous. My favorite is list writing where

you pre-number a page one to a hundred and then pick a subject like 100 things I

like about myself or 100 reasons I deserve to be treated better, 100 reasons to

stay in private practice or whatever your heart desires. Set aside 30 minutes of

uninterrupted time and start filling out your list. It's okay to repeat. The

first 20 or so items will be on the top of your conscious mind, after that the

subconscious mind starts to come through and by the time your list is finished,

you'll be able to go back and categorize your responses. Fifteen of your items

might be because of fear of money or because someone is in your life you've been

meaning to let out of it. With this tool, you can look at things from a

different perspective. This technique works for me.>>

Natalie's book is very good. Read it, it will make you want to write and lead

you to doing so creativly. One of Natalies's favorite devices to get one to

write is to start with the phrase " I remember... " . It doesn't matter what you

remember, just whatever it is in the moment, write it down and continue to

journal your recall. Don't worry about spelling, grammer, etc. Just get the flow

on to the paper and try to recall the emoitions as well as the events. This

great writing meditation -- Try it! Better yet start a " I remember.. " journal.
