I am mindful of the sixty or so lurkers out there, looking over shoulders.* Here's a lurker de-lurking .... for years and years I kept all my shame and fear to myself because of .... well, the shame and fear! Although I still have dark corners I can't quite shine a torch into for fear, but having discovered that my shame/fear/dark bits are no worse (and often a lot less bad) than others', it made me feel a lot better a) about sharing and getting support and b) about myself and c) about other people with similar or different dark corners. Not very coherent, but what I'm trying to say is that us lurkers are probably as supportive as can be, with fears and dark corners of our own. Here's to the Dark Corners corner! Through meditation, I try to bring en-light-enment to my own dark corners. Often times, when can put a name to our fears, bring our shame to the light of understanding, these things begin to lose power over us. And, as you've said, we come to realize that most of us do have our dark corners. They may not be the same fears/shames that others have, and yet they may be similar.Because we've all reached our points in life through different experiences, what I may harbor within my own dark corners may be nothing more than a minor footnote from another person's perspective. Reminds me of what my mother used to say about each of us having our own crosses to bear. Each of us have our own dark corners that we can deal with, or not.
