Guest guest
In a message dated 99-04-12 01:03:57 EDT, you write: << Yet, the process of growth would have us accept those dark corners within our souls as a part of who we are, neither good, nor bad...just a part....No, Rob, not many are willing to walk that path. >> Invoking the name of Suzanne Segal(a mentor, to me, much in the vein of Myss), I tell this story.. When I first started this leg of my path, Suzanne Segal, a future Phd in psychology(she did achieve it), was part of my practice... Suzanne died of a brain tumor, in 1997.... When I told her I was going into the Creighton Institute(now the Cancer Self Help and Education Center) as a facilitator trainee in the works of the Simontons, she said, " As you go into this path, keep in mind that whatever may turn up, related to your past, will not change. What will change is, you will have the choice to behave differently. Rather than behaving in the way you behaved when 'whatever' occured, that is responsible for your behavior in response to what is going on in the present, you will be able to behave based on all the information you have gained since that event. " I'm not willing to share my dark corners(yet) with this group BUT, blow for blow, I feel confident, I can match some of the worst of experiences. To that I say, SO WHAT... What I want to say to the person touching on NLP, as part of the process of growth, 'Frogs To Princes' is mandatory reading. Another book, 'Unlimited Power' by Anthony Robbins talks in a laymans terms as to what the process is about. One part of the process discussed, is the concept of taking a 'worst life experience' and going back through it to the point of being at the point where one is just prior to the event. Looking at it from that perspective gives an overview of what was going on prior to the layed down " dark corner " (I do like that terminology, Manny). Going through it, from the beginning, may help find ONE positive aspect, no matter how small, which becomes helpful in helping one to move on through life. Taking that piece, and going into the process called " reframing " , is a powerful process. I look at NLP as the Nautilus of the world of psychology. For those who do not know Nautilus, Nautilus is exercise equipment. The good news about Nautilus is, it is equipment that will give you the best workout via isolation of musculature. The bad news about Nautilus is it is the best workout via isolation of musculature because folk are not willing to be patient enough to deal with the isolation of individual muscles and end up hurting themselves and do not continue. NLP, to me, is very much like that... It pulls up the " dark corners " which is part of the " process of growth " but is so painful sometimes that people are scared away. I distribute the BodyBridge.. Recently, I did a presentation at a local retail outlet for massage related products. Part of the audience was a person(I invited) I had worked with for years that has conditions warranting the diagnosis of Alzheimers. I invited him and his wife because I wanted to point out that the crowd in attendance was " the choir " . His wife gave me permission to take advantage of the good faith and trust that had been built between us and use this person as an example as to what the majority of people we deal with actually are. On the BodyBridge, on the physical level, it bordered on humorous. Via some of the NLP technigues(mirroring especially), I was actually able to get the person to use the bridge. I am guilty of having used some of the NLP techniques to my own advantage. NLP is a great tool for growth BUT the power of mirroring is known in law-enforcement circles. NLP has a spotted history so be aware it is not a toy and has been used for overpowering nearly as much as it has for providing empowerment. Truly take it seriously... Ahhhh Zen... " Neither good, nor bad " . But to have the power over Body/Mind and have(good or bad) be just a part.... My next post will have a great " line " by one of the " heavy-hitters " in this realm. It is late and I am to tired to go to the other screen name to get it. How " bad " of me... Robert
