It's not always easy finding ourselves. Blessings, Chris >> I will not bore you with the details(physical) as to how I arrived at this place and time just yet but, like Manny, I came into realizing how much my body state could be remedied by dealing with mind/spirit.. I joined this list because I had the feeling I would hear the stories of folk(which I wanted) AND would hear the names of teachers and paths I have not heard of that may be paths I would look at. I, like Manny so eloquently described himself to be, am the end result of a long series of connections to friends, family, mentors and peers which include The Cancer Self Help and Education Center, modeled after the Simonton Institue in Texas and utilising the research of Carl and Stephanie Simonton; 3 years of metaphysical readings from the Self Realization Fellowship founded by Paramahansa Yogananda and years of meditation practice from them and the Sufi traditions. Chris writes, " It's not always easy finding ourselves. " It is the title of a book, Chris... 'The Road Less Traveled'.. Not only is it not easy, it is a path not many are willing to take. Based on my readings of the list, so far, I would say it is a case of " birds of a feather', a group that has elected to take a road less traveled. In one of the earlier postings someone mentioned discomfort with some of the Myss presentation. May I suggest it is the bluntness not often enough heard from a womans perspective and voice that is discomforting... For me, the bluntness was welcome and she has been a stop along the way from which I will pull many quotes. On this list, I will be more a lurker and listener much more than a contributor. Thanks Caro for putting this notion into the ether... Robert

I've taught a number of people some of the more simple meditation techniques such as breathing and use of sound or of mantras. And I would agree with you on this point. Most of those I taught have merely sought alternate means in achieving relaxation, and this is fine. But with meditative practices, we are often times invited to " look " deeper into ourselves. It is sometimes part of the process of self-growth. Unfortunately, some were not ready to look inward, and so chose to discontinue the practice of meditation completely, primarily, I believe, from what they found within. Yet, the process of growth would have us accept those dark corners within our souls as a part of who we are, neither good, nor bad...just a part....No, Rob, not many are willing to walk that path. > In one of the earlier postings someone mentioned discomfort with some of the > Myss presentation. I am curious, though. What I have noticed is that the Myss tapes and books were " available " when I needed them most. Once I moved beyond that point, I no longer found myself drawn to her work (though I often recommend it.) The same might be said of others I've read, such as Shatki Gawain, Deepak Chopra, etc. Now I find myself drawn to the likes of Thay Thicht Naht Hanh and Jack Cornfield. I guess I have a need to find an inner peace, of experiencing the " now " . Once I do so, I wonder what path I will follow, and who's directions I will seek?......
