I did take a journaling class. It was fabulous. It was given by a lady named

Annie Miracle (saw her birth certificate!) and it was based on the work of

Natalie Goldberg. The class was called " Writing Naked " . Each Tuesday about ten

of us met at Annie's house. We did a chant/sang for a couple of minutes to clear

our minds and get into the space we needed to be in. Then we would start out

with telling each other one thing that was going on with us or what realizations

we had since the last class. After this (usually about 30 minutes) Annie would

have us write a 10 minute timed writing. We had rules such as Natalie Goldberg

suggests. Not correcting spelling, not stopping writing, etc. to create a true

flow of thought. Our subjects would be " outside my kitchen window " , " my mother's

hands " , " what I see when I close my eyes " , etc. The subjects are endless. After

we did this timed writing, we would each read what we wrote in front of the

group. Sometimes we would laugh, sometimes cry. It was amazing what we could end

up with, starting out with the same subject.

One thing that I took with me from the class was the love for a magazine called

The Sun. It's a literary type magazine published in North Carolina, it has a

section called " Readers Write " and offers the opportunity to write a very short

story about a variety of subjects. The doctor, rejection, my favorite chair,

laundromats, etc. Each time I get this magazine I immediately turn to this

section and read the twenty or so very different and some complex stories.

Another thing I got out of the class was a deep and meaningful bond with the

others. Since the class (I've taken two) I've journaled on my own with great

satisfaction and even better results.

Oh, yes... Natalie Goldberg. I remember reading " Writing Down the

Bones " back when I was in nursing school. It helped me so much to

deal with the day to day trauma dramas of clinical and such.

Sounds like a great class!

Wow. & nbsp; & nbsp; Who is Natalie Goldberg. & nbsp; & nbsp; I can see where this

kinda of circle for women to meet weekly would be lots of fun for

everyone. & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp;

I am very poor on journaling but am trying to get better. & nbsp; & nbsp; I

even put one on my puter so I might be more inspired. & nbsp; grin. & nbsp;

no such luck. & nbsp; Hey...now that is an idea. & nbsp; What if... one made

a program that would auto pop up in front of the puter at designated times

and it was specially designed for journaling. & nbsp; & nbsp; If I were only

a programmer. & nbsp; & nbsp; hummm. & nbsp; & nbsp; grin. & nbsp; I spend alot of

time on the puter so an instant pop up journal would probably work for

me as it would remind me to do it. & nbsp; Mostly I don't because I forget

to.
On Caroline Myss. & nbsp; Sounds like I would like her work. & nbsp; I

study with a Shamanic Path also and they teach taking personal

responsibility. & nbsp;

Heck most everything I have studied in the last 13 years stresses

this. & nbsp; & nbsp;

I will have to look her up and see if my library has anything by

her. & nbsp; & nbsp;

I buy books almost complusively. & nbsp; I love them. & nbsp; It is a source

of amusement to my husband..
Heck Amazon sent me a thermos coffee mug for Xmas. & nbsp; What does

that say. & nbsp; ROFL.
So I am trying to temper this and look at the library first.

That class sounds like a lot of fun. I would really get into the structure

and the support built in to it. But let's face it-- there was only ten

minutes of journaling involved per week. And yet I would really really like

to do something like that. Anyone know of such a group online? Or interested

in starting one?

I have found journaling to be very useful on my personal journey. I have

journaled since high school days, and have filled many volumes. Recently it

was interesting to read my journals from the time when I was first getting

into massage. There were the issues of woo woo and my resistance to the whole

concept. So amazing to look at myself from the added perspective of the years

that have passed.

As to The Sun, I have recently gotten the second issue in my subscription. I

can't imagine why I waited so long to get it. As soon as one of the " readers

write " subjects reverberates for me, I intend to write.

I'm liking this new list. Thanks.

Anukki,

How does one go about subscribing to this magazine? Is there an

address or perhaps a website you can give to the group?

Thanks,

Barbara
