Hello!

I decided to join this list because the correlation between what we think and

what we create fascinates me. I've watched Caroline Myss' video tapes and have

had some exposure to Chakras. I've been aware of affirmations for years and have

used them with great results. In my own personal growth, I feel that journaling

is the " missing link " . I have to admit that there are things that I find myself

resisting, so I have chosen to persist and join the list.

I have taken a couple of weekend classes in hypnotherapy, mostly to support

my guided visualization work with clients, but I am always interested in

more. It is amazing to me that hypnosis can help a person get to an issue

without having to consciously explore it; for those who have suffered

trauma, that must be a plus.

How does this work? I thought when you did hypnosis, you would consciously

remember whatever went on in the session. Tell me more about this, please?

Greetings listfolk!

I joined this list because there was a time in my career as an LMT

when I had no idea what energy could do through my hands. I have since

learned what Reiki energy is all about, and even though I have not recieved

attunements from an earthbound master, I have them just the same. I am here

to learn, to share, to feel, to experience. I know I am blessed with healing

energy and need to communicate with others like me. List Mother Crow, bless

you for the invitation. Thank you!.......Song

Why I d? I work with various people mostly people with von

Hipple-Lindau disease to help bring body and mind back into sync. In working

with natural healing therapies I d to the list to see and hear other

healing modalities. I will be giving a presentation in June on complementary

therapies and I was hoping to gain additional insight from this list.

In a message dated 99-04-10 23:25:25 EDT, you write:

<< Hippel-Lindau disease >> What is Hippel-Lindau disease?

Von Hippel-Lindau disease is one of the most common of the familial cancers.

It is caused by a flaw in one tumor suppressor gene, Once changed, this

faulty gene can be passed down in the family. Each child has a 50% chance of

inheriting the faulty gene. Once the tumor suppressor gene is out of

commission, tumors may form in one or more places in the body, while it may

differ in individual families. Of the people that may carry the VHL gene

57% may have tumors of the retina

30% may have tumors in the adrenal glands

54% may have tumors in the cerebellum

15% may have tumors of the spinal cord

23% may have kidney cancer

more than 50% may have cysts in the kidney and pancreas

If you would like additional information on von Hippel Lindau see www.vhl.org

I am participating on a panel at a MA state ANA meeting in May on " alternative

medicine and its interface with modern nursing " (chew on that moniker-- LOL)

I'm presenting, briefly, on Healing Touch.

Who is your population for your presentation in June? How long will you have to

speak/present?

I'm not sure if I am in the right place, but I'm looking for something to

help me with a constant feeling of fear and anxiety I have. I just don't

understand it. I guess I'm looking for some kind of breathing or relaxing

methods to use. I'm female, 43, married, mother of two adult daughters

not living at home, two and a half grandkids, I'm a plant manager, I'm

basically a good person. My husband and I are friends, we work together

and have spent 24 hours a day together for twelve years. With the help

of Viagra we have an awesome sex life. A couple of months ago I quit

smoking and drinking alcohol. I have a wonderful life. I should be happy

and proud of these accomplishments in my life. But my mind won't let me

rest, be happy and free from fear. It causes almost a physical aching in my

chest almost all the time. I need something to help me. Life is passing me

by and I'm wasting it by drowning in sadness. Why? Well, that pretty much

covers it. I d to learn. Is this the right place?

Cas, I would say that your path has lead you to this list for a reason. I

remember that I had a lot of anxiety when I quit smoking too. For all of those

years, the smoking helped me supress the anxiety that I felt and I had to learn

to let it go.

As one of the many bodyworkers on this list, I would suggest that you find a

massage therapist and have a relaxing, stress and anxiety reducing massage. If

you let us know what city you are in, perhaps we can help you find someone.

Another suggestion I have would be meditation. Exercise is also a good way to

rid yourself of anxiety. Journaling in a private journal can help too. A good

counselor/therapist can do wonders as well. Good luck to you and keep us

informed as to your well-being.

This might be the place, and it might not be. Here you will find questions, such

as yours. You will find answers, some which may apply, or not. That will be for

you to decide. From reading your post, the first thing that came to mind was

meditation. This can help to quiet the mind. I would recommend listening to the

tape set " The Present Moment " by Thay Thicht Nhat Hanh (I rarely get the name

spelled correctly.)

There are various methods used during meditation practice, mantras, sounds, and

the breath are a few. I would suggest looking into some available workshops

and/or

classes to find one with which you will be most comfortable.

And I would recommend one other thing, as I do with all who seek answers to

whatever questions they have: continue your search for your answers, until you

find those answers. What works for one person may not work for another. You have

to search until you find what is best for *you*.

Thanks for your recommendations Manny. I am definately open to

suggestions. Do you think if I listen to " The Present Moment " it will

help quiet my mind? Does it teach breathing methods? My main

problem is I live in a rural area and there are just not that many

workshops. I'm not looking for an instant solutions because I've let

this go on too long as it is. But I am looking for a small amount of

relief and really think breathing methods or trying to teach myself

meditation could help some.

With practice. As with most things, you reap what you sow. If you invest enough

time and

energy, you are likely to begin to see results. But you can't expect to listen

to the

tapes and find yourself suddenly with a quiet mind.

In addition to the breath work, Thay Thicht Nhat Hanh describes a method of

walking

meditation. It moves the focus from the breath to the feet. The idea is to feel

your

connection with the earth as each foot moves forward and is placed upon the

earth.

Another method is the use of sound, what he calls " inviting the bell to sound " ,

and

focus on its reverberations as they fade into infinity.

The price of the tape set may vary regionally, but it is considerably less

expensive

than attending a workshop. And it will provide you with exposure to meditation

techniques so that you may determine for yourself if this is a direction you

might wish

to follow.
