Guest guest
Hi all, I have an autistic son and I just added a few things to his diet(he was GFCF, but we left it after a year of little progress). The new things are: Cod Liver Oil Beet Kvass (about 2 tsps a day) Lemon egg (this is GREAT) Evening Primrose Oil and I've been using coconut oil. His BM's are black. My initial thoughts were that it was some sort of detox(being autistic, I know he's full of all kinds of crap), and tried to search the archives but after looking through some of the post-I started getting concerned (a little bit) that yet another thing is haywire with him. Any thoughts. Ann in Memphis
Guest guest
Deana, William is 10 and is low functioning and non verbal. I realize that anything can happen with the human body but my goal now is to just make him as healthy as possible. I believe his autism is a product of our modern American health care system but I take responsibility for my actions, too. He received all of his vaccinations and more antibiotics than you can shake a stick at. Everything that he ate for the first 5 years of his life had some sort of sugar in it. Just about everything you could do wrong with a kid-I did. He had lots of tylenol and was on soy formula(the first ingredient was sugar-53%-I believe). There was no reaction to the vaccines but I know they contributed it his autism. GFCF is gluten and casein free. Those are the proteins in grains and dairy. A lot of autistic kids cannot break those proteins down and some respond very well to removing them from their diet. We did it for a year and saw some progress but I was concerned with such a limited diet for a long period of time. I found a way to prepare these foods that predigests the proteins. I just recently found this group and have concentrated on getting his diet on track. We've only been doing it for a short time and he is doing better but my goal now is to just make him healthy. Thanks, Ann in Memphis
Guest guest
Hello Ann; I have a couple of questions for you... how old is your son? I ask this because the younger he is the better chance you may have at turning this around. I am the sister of a formerly autistic brother. He is considered pretty much normal today, still has some problems, that may or may not be related, but he was definately one of the lucky ones. It was not realized, in my brothers case until I did TONS of research on autism & vaccines that my brother was/is vaccine damaged. My son had severe vaccine reactions and ended up in a coma, which he came out of with no help from the medical profession. (I was told I was hysterical) Even after this, Dr's told me to continue vaccinations, which I stupidly listened to them and did. No real excuse there, but I was only 19 and extremely naive about the dangers of vaccines. Which brings me to my second question - has your son been vaccinated & has he had severe reactions to them? Do you still vaccinate him. I understand this is a very delicate topic, but I will never get a Dr to admit any wrongdoing in my sons case. He has ADD/HD as well as Tourette's Syndrome, has severe learning disabilities & has been labelled oppositional defiant. He lives on his own as he got to an age where all the supplements & good organic food, were not his idea of living, so off he went. He can't seem to co-relate that what goes in his mouth, comes out in some manner or other, as in aggrevated Tourette's symptoms and his ADD/HD is out of control. Garbage in - garbage out... Medically speaking, and on a pharmaceutical approach, you cannot treat one of these disorders without aggrevating the other. Which led us to treat our son holistically. I guess I have another question, what is GFCF? I'm not familiar with that. If you have any more questions or answes to mine, reply to my post.
