Guest guest
First, have you had your thyroid checked, second get a humidifier, especially in the winter to keep your sinuses from drying out. This is too involved of a case to just jump into, but those are considerations to look at. Also, before I sign off to get to bed as tommorrow comes early, a short herbal rule of thumb is if you are allergic to ragweed, don't do the ragweed type herbs (ie. golden rod, chamomile, etc.), and if you are on a medication (or2...3...4), be concerned about the side effects and interactions there (med-med, med-herb) instead of herb-herb; finally, you don't want to use overkill (ie. too much redundancy withlike herbs that do the exact same thing) Hopefully that gets you started, and others will follow up. Oh, and are you taking bile salts to help break down your fats since you had your gallbladder removed? In health, Steve ----------------------------- I am new to the group. I have severe allergies. I have been going to several doctors over the last 10 years. The first doctor did not diagnose allergies, he kept giving me antibiotics every time I went to the doctor. I was on antibiotics for almost 6 months and finally determined this is not what I should be doing. The next docter determined that I should be on clariten d and flonase but these only mask the symptoms. The next doctor decided that I should be on allergy shots (immunotherapy shots) such as a personal one, ragweed, and grass & tree shots, and when I have an allergy flair he gives me kenalog. he also has me on clariten d and flonase. I have problems with swelling of my sinuses along with if the room is to dry my nose bleeds. I also have food allergies. I also have an ulcer and have had my gallbladder taken out. When my allergies flare, I also have a pain in the right side of my neck about where the adam's apple is. I am also very fatigued all the time. I was a competative swimmer for over 10 years but I have got to the point that every time I get into the water my sinuses have a severe reaction to the chlorine? or all the bacteria in the water? I have been looking into alternative medicines the last 3-4 years but I get confused at all the contradictions in the alternative medicine field. My chriropactor(sp?) recommended trying nettles. When I take this or any other herb is there any contra-indications as far as reactions. This is what I find confusing, what herbs you can mix together & what herbs you cannot mix and what different reactions are there to them. What are the doses you take? In every book they give you different doses? Also does anyone have any suggestions? Diets to be on? Specific vitamins to take?

Guest guest
The general impression here is that there are two problems -- the original allergies, and the damage done by several drug courses over the years. Nothing is going to be simple in terms of healing from this point on. Any drug that affects histamines in the body will also affect allergic reactions. (The worst drugs for this are SSRIs like Prozac and some of the new digestive ones like Zantac.) Some of us are scrambling to find out what's going to work once damage has been done. As for Claritin and Flonase, i'm not yet familiar with their effects, but am suspicious of them. Nettle is one of those herbs that works great for some people and lousy for others. It has never been known to cause great harm, but if it doesn't work or symptoms get worse it would be a good idea to discontinue it immediately. Ulcers are often a symptom of too little water -- there's a great book that all of us should have on hand, called " Your Body's Many Cries for Water " . It is surprising how little water is taken by so many Americans, and how well it helps to alleviate so many conditions. With a missing gallbladder, food allergies are going to be tougher to handle in general. They also may have been aggravated by earlier courses of treatment. It may happen that the diet just has to be very restricted, and sometimes people have to put up with that. I knew one guy who lived very well on a kind of multigrain bread that he made himself, and ate almost nothing else. He lived to the age of 98, and was a great skiier all the way to the end. There certainly are a lot of contradictions within medicine. That seems to be part of the fun of living on this planet. Some of these contradictions are simply a reflection of differing body types and genetic patterns. And of course some systems will work for some people and not for others, and nobody knows why for sure. After all, the allopathic system worked great for John D. Rockefeller, which is why he poured so much money into it and fostered those doctors into becoming a political monopoly. Given the information in this post, making specific recommendations would be foolish. Part of what's needed is a thorough physical exam, a thorough inventory of all drugs taken over the past 10 years, including those not having anything to do with the current symptoms as stated, and a diet diary. Then a good doctor would be able to make some decent recommendations. I think a lot of the problem here is that doctors can't (or won't) take the kind of time with patients that's necessary. Another thing that should definitely happen in this case is to have a full environmental evaluation of the home done, because some of what's mentioned here could be the result of molds or fungus in the walls. Guest guest
Great advice, IMO! Could you provide some more information about bile salts? How are they made, and what kind of sources provide them? How do they work? Guest guest
At this point I do not know where to go what kind of doctor to see, I live about 45 min to 60 min south of cleveland ohio if someone has a suggestion about doctors email me off list. I have got to the point that I distrust the medical establishment and big pharmacy companies. --- Michael Riversong <rivedu wrote: > The general impression here is that there are two > problems -- the original > allergies, and the damage done by several drug > courses over the years. > Nothing is going to be simple in terms of healing > from this point on. > > Any drug that affects histamines in the body will > also affect allergic > reactions. Guest guest
There's a product that is distributed to doctors that are " forward thinking " individuals, and if you need a referral, call 1-800-558-8740; their name is Standard Process, and I have read favorable comments on their products, but you must get it from a doctor. The product is referred to in one of my newsletters as " Cholacol " , and contains purified bovine bile salts, and collinsonia root (which I am not familiar with, but this Doctor swears by it). He also has alittle questionaire that evaluates how good a candidate you are for bile salts - unless you have no gallbladder, then everyone should take - and for hypothyroidism). In health, Steve ----------------------------- Great advice, IMO! Could you provide some more information about bile salts? How are they made, and what kind of sources provide them? How do they work?
