Echinacea, plantain, comfrey, hyssop and/or golden seal are good topically, and

gotu kola, horsetail, yucca, turmeric, and glucosamine/MSM could all be useful

for inflamation and healing of bone.

Good Afternoon!

I am in need of some help with having a sore on a dogs leg heal faster. Th is

puppy broke his leg and was in a cast for 6 weeks and it caused a sore o n his

leg. What herbs would be good to help this heal...also to help the j oint

become a bit more flexible. I assume it's like a human leg and needs to be

moved a lot to help the healing and him to walk better faster. Any a dvice

would be appreciated.

I am unsure, but from what I have read, glucosamine sulfate & MSM together form

chondroiton in the body!?!

Maybe Doc can clarify if I read right or not, if he makes his cameo tonight ;o)!

Glad you posted this. I also have a dog healing from a broken leg, sores from

the cast, and with some joint stiffness. The sores are healed. I have been

giving her condroiten (sp?) for the joints but maybe should add some of these

other herbs too.

Thank you all. Cathy

Thanks so much Steve. I have no idea if this little health food shop

carries that here but will definitely check into it. I have been giving him

a vitamin that has colostrum *got this for my female but she didn't like

them*, echinacea (angustifolia and purpurea) and bioflavonoids complex and

calcium tablets. Don't know if it has helped or not. I do know 3 weeks ago

the vet said that the leg wasn't healing good and would probably need a pin.

I started giving him the tablets and the xray this morning showed the bone

to be healed perfectly.

You may also want to give your dog arnica for the pain and aches.

Follow childs dose of 2 tabs of 12c/x every 6 hours if possible and

you can even get it in cream or jel to put on healed areas.

If there is swelling you can use apis mel 12c every 6 hours for up

to a week at a time with a few days break inbetween. I thelp decrease

interstial and mucusal edema. It can also be disolved in water to

form a paste and apllied right to the swelling.

goood luck

Cathy,

Have you given her calcium tablets? With mine I took him in 3 weeks ago and

the vet was almost sure he would have to have a pin in his leg as it wasn't

healing very well. I started giving him calcium tablets after he got his

ears cropped and the vet said that was probably the best thing I could have

done for him as the bone healed beautifully. Now we just have to deal with

this sore and the stiffness.

If you have the comfrey growing on your place dig up the roots wash and

grind wrap some cloth around the leg or broke part and put this on as a

cast its original name was bone knit because the body absorbs stuff from

it and heals the bone. This stuff dries hard as any cast. And saves you

money.
