I had never thought of it from that perspective, but I

just finished an Ayurvedic book called Prakriti, and

the last chapter or so was on the benefits of many

metals to the body, and they have ancient and highly

sophisticated methods of preparing metals including

mercury which is highly valued, as is gold. They are

called Bhasmas. Being an ancient and 'natural' healing

art, I found this fascinating. The metals are

purified, then mixed into herbal pastes and

incinerated for long periods, over and over- can be 5,

7 or 11 firings, but 100 or 1000 times incinerated

metals are highly valued, and obviously the ancient

rishis had the years to do this.

Most of the metals apart from gold and silver become

oxides or sulphides, which eliminates their

reactivity. Gold is unreactive anyway, and gold and

silver are reduced to colloidal size particles. The

fineness of the particles increases with age and 100

year old Bhasmas are highly valued. A tiny amount is

taken, and care must be taken not to overdose. There

are diamond bhasmas, mica, mercury, gold, silver, and

many minerals.

' There is no disease which mercury cannot cure if it

is properly prepared and used, say the texts, and if

it is improperly prepared or misused there is no

disease it cannot cause'. Quote from Prakriti- the

author is obviously quoting from elsewhere.

Its interesting that you brought the subject up Ian, I

hadnt considered it, but I tend to have a trust in

practices that have been handed down for thousands of

years- they have stood the test of time, like herbs.

The Ayurvedists used herbs, lifestyle, diet- and

minerals and metals properly prepared, in a way we may

never have the patience to prepare them. Maybe we can

learn something from it- at least to keep an open

mind.

As for homeopathy, perhaps you are wary from the many

years western doctors in the past used mercury - with

amazing suppression of symptoms- but the side effects

were terrible. But perhaps these were just too gross,

and there is ancient knowledge out there which may

point to mercury being viable, prepared in a specific

way. In which case, perhaps homeopathic mercury may be

ok.

I mean, herbs are natural, but they can make you sick

too. Anything can be a poison, so perhaps mercury,

arsenic etc are not only poisons, but possiblities of

healing.

my 2 cents

I have to say, I have heard a lot of contradictory and what I

initially though of as misguided things from homeopathic practitioners

(such as " herbs never have any side effects. HAH! They are powerful

medicines and should be respected - they have documented dangers as

well as benefits) but this is the first thing that has actively scared

me. Mercury was used as a cure all right up there with leaches and

bleeding the patient. It is extremely dangerous. It does NOT form

oxides with anything and interferes with transmission of nerve

impulses once inside your body. It evaporates quickly into the air,

it can get into your body through the skin, lungs, or stomach. It

CANNOT be processed out by the liver or kidneys, so it just sits there

in your body - small doses may have no harmful effects, but small

doses over time are disasterous. Do please THINK about what youa re

putting in your body. A lot of health promoting substances were used

by our ancestors right along with a lot of harmful superstitions.

Just because someone 100+ years ago said something worked miracles

does not make that true. I supposed we're now to go back to bleeding

patiets as well, and avoiding baths for fear of water?
