Interesting- Ian, you are sceptical about mercury- I

am quite sceptical about Vitamin C. I know it can be

useful, but it is not really 'natural' as far as I am

concerned. Dont worry, I have read volumes about it, I

know how wonderful its supposed to be, but its just

too strong as far as I am concerned- I prefer to get

my vitamins in food and juices, not isolated. Prefer-

I do sometimes take vitamins.

When I was studying the product Grainfields, a

fermented grain product extremely high in healthy

bacteria- known as rejuvilac in old Naturopathic

texts- I read something interesting. The guy who

produces Grainfields tried to make applecider using

his good bacteria product- with organic applejuice

from the health food store. He couldnt get it to grow-

tried a different brand, no luck. He had bred his

bacteria very tough and was surprised. Then he phoned

the manufacturers and they said all bottled juices

have Vit C in them as a preservative, even if it

doesnt say on the label. So it turns out the Vit C

kills the healthy bacteria. If it does that in a

bottle of juice, what does it do to our intestines?

I am not denying the Vitamin C flush may not be quite

useful- but I would be careful not to overdo it. My

instincts say I wouldnt like to do that to myself

unless I was pretty sick and needed to do something

drastic- and I have a pretty tough tummy.

Herbs are virtually foods and are buffered by many

consituents- Vit C is a refined chemical. In nature,

it is wonderfully supported. I now all about the

research , but its a lot of theory.

Just another perspective

Ahhhhhhhh, I love a good debate ;o)

One of the big questions I have from what you've written is whether or not Vit C destroys all bacteria or just specific forms. In the past I have taken very large doses of Vit C and not had any adverse effect on my digestion. Could it be that intestinal flora has an affinity with Vit C that is not shared by other bacteria???

Also, creating diarrhea can be very therapeutic and remember this is a cleanse were talking about here not a normal every day regimen. The idea would be to handle specific conditions not as an every day practice. Old Doc Thompson cured hundreds of thousands of patients using his "Purge and Puke" technique and though not very comfortable, it was very effective.

I personally use Orange, Grapefruit, and Lemon Peels as mentioned in a previous post to get all the Vit C needed for my family but will use any "natural" remedy necessary to accomplish a total healing as long as there is no adverse or negative effects created by doing so. This is what I think you are concerned about Peela and I'd be interested if anyone has had any long term side effects from taking massive doses of Vit C. I've never heard of any but am open to input.

Love,

Doc
