Guest guest
Hi All, I have extracted ALL the omega data from KIM and turned in into an Excel file. crsocietyAttachments/Usda13KimOmega.zip USDA13 food Omega data from KIM. n6s = Omega 6, n3s = Omega 3, n6l = AA, n3l = DHA+EPA, en6 = n6s + (n6l+20), en3 = ns3 + (n3s*10). The formula attempts to adjust the nxl forms back to equivalent nxs to allow apple verus apple comparisons of various Omega sources. As above, I have attempted to calc the equivalent amount of precursor Omegas which would represent the downstream Omega which some foods contain. In other words 2g of Omega 3 is the same as 200 mg of EPA as the conversion of Omega 3 to EPA is about 10 %. This was done to allow a somewhat more accurate way to gauge the Omega ratio in various foods. Interesting that for vegans, flax seed is their fish equivalent and a very balanced Omega diet can be obtained without using any oils, dairy, fish or meat. The sort was done on the basis of the best equivalent Omega 3 > Omega 6 / gram of the food. I have also provided a estimation of the Omega result for the sample size used by the USDA investigation team. Good eating & good health. ======================== Good Health & Long Life, Greg Watson, http://www.ozemail.com.au/~gowatson gowatson
