....and let's not forget the slightly radical Greenpeace, to which the web

address eludes me; or is that the true food address for Greenpeace?!?

Hi,

I know we're not really talking about GMOs right now, BUT I hope you'll humor

me. I know it's time consuming to write letters of complaint to agencies and

companies regarding important subjects, like genetically engineered food. But

True Food makes it SO easy to " write a letter. " If you go to

http://www.truefoodnow.org/inside_scoop/index.html and click on the first button

on the left, they will give you a brief description of what they are working on

now. After providing some personal information for your mail, you can click on

any description and True Food has an interactive letter, which makes life so

much easier! You can make it personal and use their suggestions or if you don't

have any time you can even use it the way it is. They provide you with choices

of faxing or emailing it and then if you click the " send " button, they will do

it for you. Or if you prefer using a hard copy and the personal touch (which

always carries more weight, let's face

it), you can send it yourself by printing and using your own letter head after

you preview your letter. It's just so easy!

Don't forget to click on the other buttons, like the third one, " what's behind

the label, " so you can find out what foods are safe or not.

Also, remember Mothers for Natural Law, which is great

http://www.safe-food.org/ and Organic Consumers Association, which has a whole

lot of links. http://www.purefood.org/organlink.htm

Hope it helps anybody who is willing to write a letter (quickly)!

I guess if you go to the web site, they will fill you in more on this subject,

but on the PBS series that I only caught the tail end of a few weeks back, the

last thing that they covered was this issue; and the biggest deal was that fish

with this gene that escaped the confines of the fish farm, would be mistaken by

the female as an ideal dominant breeder, hence letting all of the " natural "

salmon males die off leaving no " non-contaminated " fish in existence!

So sorry! All this length about how easy it is to write a letter with the use

of True Food and some other organizations, but I forgot to mention why this came

up right now is that:

On July 11th, the U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on an

amendment to the Agriculture Appropriations Bill that calls for a one-year

moratorium on genetically engineered (GE) Fish.

The FDA is now reviewing an application for the first gene altered fish, a

fast-growing salmon. But there are no federal laws that specifically govern the

regulation of GE fish. The FDA is treating this GE salmon as a new animal drug

rather than a food product. A fish is a complete organism, not a drug, and

should not be approved on this narrow, unscientific basis.

That's why, even if we weren't talking about GMOs right now, you might be

wanting to hear how easy it really is to write a letter. Sorry to do this in

such bits and pieces!http://www.truefoodnow.org/inside_scoop/index.html

Now I am done! :o)

Happy Fourth of July to everyone.
