Guest guest
Misha, I have a book entitled Natural Body Basics Making Your Own Cosmetics by Dorie Byers. It looks very good in that the formulas are simple and definitely natural. I haven't had time yet to try them although I've gathered the ingredients for the Citrus Lip Gloss. Here is the formula to give you and example. "Citrus Lip Gloss When I sent a sample of this for my friend to try, she called to say, "This tastes good, send me more!" The citrus essential oils and honey combine to make this gloss a tasty product that will keep you lips soft and moist for some time. 3 Tbsp. sweet almond oil 2 tsp. beeswax (pearls or solid beeswas grated and measured) 1 tsp. aloe vera gel 1 tsp. honey 800 IU Vitamin E 4 drops lemon essential oil 3 drops tangerine essential oil Melt beeswax and almond oil together in a heatproof container over boiling water. When melted, remove from heat. Add honey and Vitamin E, mixing briskly with a wire whisk. Add aloe vera gel, and continue to mix briskly. When almost cool and set, add the essential oils and mix. Do not stop whisking while the mixture is cooling -- the ingredients could separate and you would have a lumpy product. Store in a low widemounted jar." Guest guest
Patty, When I make ointments I always use glass. Don't know if anything would react with the tins or not but I just feel that glass is safe and clean and non-reactive. I can also be washed well and reused. Guest guest
Patty, You're welcome! Now I get the picture! Are you using bees wax and is your formula one that is heated? If so, in that case I'd be sure and use considerable bees wax so the lip balm is hard enough. The ones I've made were not as stiff as a chap stick for instance. After you mix it, just put small drops on a cutting board or plate and when it cools (a few seconds to 30 seconds or so, use your finger to scrape if up and see how hard it is. If it is not stiff enough, then keep adding bees wax until it is.
