I had understood that each tablespoon was about 3g of fiber, giving you about 9g per every 3T, and if you did this 3times a day (recommended, particularly if you're low on dietary fiber and/or dealing with elimination issues and/or working weight issues), in addition to the 3T oil which are useful to the body, and helpful in combating a number of physical issues and keeping the skin nice and soft, you would get approximately 27 g of fiber, which is a daily minimum in some experts' books (and very difficult to get in the modern diet). It's so hard to figure out how much is what when capsules say one measurement, and spoons figure things differently. I've been told that it would take about 12-18 flax oil capsules to equal one tablespoonful of the flax oil. My own experiment (squeezing out the capsules) yielded a similar result - the capsules are mostly gelatin (very thick) and a drop or two of oil! > Daily grinding is the only way as the omega 3 oil in the ground seeds > oxidizes very quickly. I keep by unground, organically grown seeds > in the freezer. You *can* grind in advance and freeze the ground seeds. Of necessity, you might need to if you get overly ambitious and grind up too many seeds at one time - just put the flaxseed meal into the freezer until you need them. Blessings Margaret You must be the change you wish to see in the world.

Hi Margaret, Here is a link to the USDA food database: http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/cgi-bin/nut_search.pl Type in whatever food you are interested in, select the portion sizes and you get the real data. The data for flax seed is 27 % fiber or as you say 3 g in a tablespoon and 18 % Omega 3 or 2.17 g in a tablespoon. This online database is the best source for detailed breakdown of Vit, mineral, fat & amino acid content I know of. Omega 9 is listed as 18:1 Mono / Oleic Omega 6 is listed as 18:2 Poly / Linoleic Omega 3 is listed as 18:3 Poly / Alpha Linolenic Normally Flax Oil is: Omega 9 = 16 % Omega 6 = 16 % Omega 3 = 57 % and 1 Flax Oil capsule is normally = 1 g so to get 6.5 g (3 tbs of ground flax seed) of Omega 3 you would need 6.5 / 0.57 = 12 capsules. ======================== Good Health & Long Life, Greg Watson, http://www.ozemail.com.au/~gowatson gowatson

Hi Doc, Here is some more which shows the desired levels of ALL the PUFAs (PolyUnsaturated Fatty Acids) http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/full/71/1/179 " Polyunsaturated fatty acids in the food chain in the United States " Which recommends the following daily amounts of Polyunsaturated fatty acids: Omega 6 = 6.7 g This may be a problem as it is too easy to get too much omega 6. Omega 3 = 2.2 g. 1 tbs (12 g) of ground flax seeds. DHA = 0.6 g EPA = 0.6 g This is in addition to that provided by the internal conversion from Omega 3 and is about 4 fish oil tablets or 80 - 100 g of salmon. Max internal conversion of Omega 3 to DHA is only about 10%. The ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 is important to obtain max internal conversion of Omega 3 into both DHA and EPA. Too much Omega 6 will inhibit the conversion of the Omega 3 into DHA. ======================== Good Health & Long Life, Greg Watson, http://www.ozemail.com.au/~gowatson gowatson
Guest guest
My favorite is UDO's Choice which not only has the Omega 3, 6, & 9 but also has the GLA from the Evening Primrose Oil. I don't know of any other Flax Oil here in the States that is stored either in stainless steel or glass and either frozen or refrigerated as UDO's is. A real top quality product. Mixed with my Total Nutrition (loaded full of Amino Acids, etc.), two raw eggs in 12 oz of organic apple juice and you have probably the most perfect meal I can think of. After, I developed the formula I lost 10 pounds without even changing my diet and added to that my exercise program (run 6 miles a day) I keep and look pretty fit. Not bad for a 55 year old curmudgeon ;o) Love, Doc PS. I think these Oils should be a part of everyones diet. I'm 54 and look mid 40s but feel mid 30s. I'm also very fit. Do you have link for your Total Nutrition? Where did you do your Naturopathy study? I'm currently doing a distance education degree for a Bachelor of Health Science in Complementary Medicine (Naturopathy) here in Oz. A few years ago when I retired from 30 years as a Electronics Design Engineer (had my own electronics design company), I would never have dreamed of starting a new career but here I am at 54 and doing just that! I currently day trade on the Aussie stock market, so I'm online about 8 hours a day. ======================== Good Health & Long Life, Greg Watson, http://www.ozemail.com.au/~gowatson gowatson

A lot of my early study was with a group in Florida who were studying Doctor Schulze and Doctor Christopher's materials. I then got my degree through correspondence with Trinity College out of Indiana. It was fantastic curricula and I enjoyed most of it tremendously.A few years ago when I retired from 30 years as a Electronics Design Engineer (had my own electronics design company), I would never have dreamed of starting a new career but here I am at 54 and doing just that! Finally figured out what you wanted to be when you grew up??? ;o) Love, Doc
