Guest guest
hi all, i have a question...i started taking a Bvit complex whole foods supplement and two days into taking it, i started to experience hot flashes to the point of nauseousness and at times i could actually feel my heart pounding in my chest... i am wondering if this could be due to the supplement. The formulation is standard RDA except for smaller doses of choline and biotin and is the standard combination of Bvit...i was taking them in the evening with my dinner. am i right or wrong that bvits have a very low incidence of side effects and toxicity? another important factor is that i have a particularly sensitive stomach and am " allergic " to most fresh fruits and veg. (though i am working on that) so i am wondering if it is possible that i could be having a reaction to the whole foods component of the supplements? or do u think that these symptoms r totally unrelated to the bvits? by the way, they r made by Solgar... well any input would be greatly appreciated! thanks a bunch ciao leah
Guest guest
Leah, As far as I know it is the B3, niacinamide, in the multi B that will cause the hot flushes, taken alone it can be used to help circulation and can certainly cause a very strong flushing- i have taken it alone and my whole body went red and felt very strange. But that was the idea- its good to 'flush' the circulation. However I know it can be unpleasant to some people and I dont know the precautions, and you must be quite sensitive to get that reaction from a multi B, so maybe its not for you. Its probably doing you more good than harm, but I dont know your particular health circumstances so i cant say for sure. love peela --- inu <inucee wrote: > hi all, i have a question...i started taking a Bvit > complex whole > foods supplement and two days into taking it, i > started to experience > hot flashes to the point of nauseousness and at > times i could > actually feel my heart pounding in my chest... > > i am wondering if this could be due to the > supplement. Guest guest
A few years ago I took a B complex that was pretty powerful. After a while I had both the hot flashes and a nauseous/easily upset stomach. I didn't know that either or them was linked to the B Vitamins. Then I realized the nausea was. My father-in-law who has a masters in nutrition told me that some people react to the B vitamin supplements that way. When I stopped the B supplement the hot flashes went away, too. My husband still takes that B supplement and seems to need the high doses, but not me! It is interesting to me how we are all so very different. Guest guest
See answers below. They may very well be related though I am not happy with Solgar and couldn't say for sure. You'll find better sources for supplements if you look to make your own. Better sources of BComplex are Spirulina, Chlorella and Non Active Nutritional Yeast. With the amount of data you've given me, my first thought is that it may have turned on a detox and put you into somewhat of a healing crisis, but that is only a guess with the data you've given me. Guest guest
Dear Peela, It is the acid form of B3 that causes the kind of flushing you're talking about. It is called Niacin or Nicotinic Acid. I've never heard of Niacinamide causing this effect. Niacin will definitely cause a strong flush and will also run out radiation. It is a must for any cancer patient who has had radiation treatment. Guest guest
> I've never heard of Niacinamide causing this effect. hi Doc, Peela and all, thanks for the input! i was just thinking to call Solgar in the morning to ask if they thought it was possible for the niacinamide to be causing the flushing cuz i just reread the niacin sec in my health book and came across the nicotinic acid/flushing niacinamide/no flushing part...so i'm thinking i will probably feel better anyway taking some type of actual whole food than a pill since that's what i was trying to go for anyway in taking Solgar's whole food supplement. so i'm going to check out ur suggestions, doc...all this new awareness is sometimes so daunting and knowing how(let alone having the courage) to really incorporate it into my life eludes me at times! i'm glad i've got resources like this to turn too:) thanks a bunch! ciao minha gente consciously leah
