Guest guest
Isn’t rice bran extract an extract isolated from rice bran oil? So I guess it wouldn’t be considered a “whole food”. I don’t know much about it - Do you know what the chlorophyll content is, and does it contain all the minerals and trace minerals? Is it a complete protein? Guest guest
Carol, Being an extract, it is definitely processed. It does not contain healing energy, and is not a complete food. Rather than eat just the bran of the rice, it would be more beneficial to eat the whole rice grain. Guest guest
I have taken spirulina tablets for years, from Light-Force to Cell Tech super blue green algae...I buy the NOW brand spirulina at my local herb store, and it is about $12 a big bottle, which is a bargain. Guest guest
That isn't my concept of whole food to have to eat every part of it. For example wheat germ. I don't think plucking the most nutritious part of wheat makes it incomplete. With that in mind, perhaps we should somehow get fruit skin and crush up the pit and not just eat the juicy part. I think of isolating individual vitamins and minerals etc and taking them separately as losing the value of nutrients working together. That my opinion anyway. barb --- Carol Minnick <carolminnick wrote: > Isn't rice bran extract an extract isolated > from rice bran oil? Guest guest
Lil – There is a BIG difference in the wild blue green algae and the “man made” spirulina. Spirulina is grown in huge concrete vats in the western part of US, and it is “fed” whatever the chemists think it needs. Whereas the wild algae feeds on the concentration of the minerals that are naturally in the lake. Also the wild algae has bio-available vit. B12, whereas Spirulina has an analog of B12, which means your body cannot utilize it – and it *may* cause pernicious anemia in some people. Most Spirulina is processed using high heat to dry it which destroys micronutrients along with the enzymatic activity. The chlorophyll content of spirulina is 115 mg. (per 10 grams) and for the wild algae it is 300 mg. Essential fatty acids in the wild algae – especially the omega 3’s that are so difficult to get from your daily diet. Spirulina does not have the fatty acids because it is a warm water algae. I could go on…………….. J I’m not saying that Spirulina is not a good supplement – if it works for you, great! But the wild algae is just a few steps above it in nutritional content. Guest guest
How do people know how a manufacturer handles the product. Excuse me Carol, not directed at you, but could be a lot of BS. I mean if stuff that is in container is not what they say it is like algaem it could be taken off the shelf, not likely but it could but who will ever check into how they catch it, store it, etc? I guess you just have to believe, huh? barb --- Carol Minnick <carolminnick wrote: > Lil - > > Spirulina is grown in huge > concrete vats in the > western part of US, and it is " fed " whatever > the chemists think it > needs. Guest guest
Barb, you’re right – it could be a lot of BS – you have to find a reputable company, and that would probably mean doing a lot of research on the company and their products. Most people don’t want to do that, and just take stuff off the shelf without even thinking about if it has what it says it has – they just buy it because they read somewhere that it would be a good thing to take. Guest guest
Barb, The whole foods that I recommend are: * whole grains (rice, millet, oat groats, teft, quinoa, etc.) * fresh vegetables * beans (adzuki, garbonzo, & lentils) * nuts & seeds * sea vegetables If you eat to optimize your health with a true healing diet, your weight will automatically go to its proper level. I always recommend that you should never go on a diet to gain or loose weight. -- Donald E. Guest guest
Donald, Do you have a website where one can read about your advice. If someone has a health problem like they don't digest sugar properly etc wouldn't medicine or an altered diet be necessary. I know your statement in theory would be true of healthy person with hormones functioning properly but I think a lot of Americans have their hormones out of wack by years of living/eating wrong. barb --- " Donald E. Guest guest
Barb, I'm in the process of putting together a web site, but don't have it completed yet. You are exactly right about many people (both male & female) having hormonal problems, resulting in impaired or non-functioning organs and/or systems in their body. Keep in mind that medications are usually prescribed to turn off the symptoms without finding or correcting the causes. A very high percentage of health problems are due to toxic metals, pesticides and/or plasticizes stored in the body that have accumulated from years and years of exposure to these things. These all cause problems with the normal functioning of the cell membrane (which is the cause of many hormonal problems). Therefore, DETOXIFICATION is one of the major keys to your body healing itself. I believe that the fastest way to detox is with a Far Infared Sauna and a real healing diet. Vitamins, minerals, and food supplements will help mitigate the healing process, but you need to be tested for vitamin and mineral levels first (too much of some vitamins and minerals can be very toxic). NOTE: Vitamins, minerals, and food supplements will NOT make up for not eating healing foods (they do not contain the healing energy of foods) Due to indiscriminate use of antibiotics (if you didn't get them prescribed everytime you went to the doctor, you got them from the food supply - animals used for food are pumped full of them, along with hormones that you do not want to have caused an out of balance condition in your own body), your intestinal flora is probably wiped out, causing an over growth of candida. Your body can not heal itself if the candida is not brought to a safe level and the intestinal flora re-implanted. The best books that I have seen that explain all of this (and more) in detail are written by Dr. Doris Rapp and by Dr Sherry Rogers. http://www.drrapp.com http://www.prestigepublishing.com Let food be thy medicine - Hippocrates 400 BC -- Donald E. Guest guest
Donald, please correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a macrobiotic diet address hormonal insufficiencies, and other conditions as well, as imbalances relating to yin/yang body/mind/spirit conditions? Isn't macrobiotics Japanese in origin basically and doesn't it make use, to some extent, of traditional Taoist ideas relating to yin/yang as well as the energy pathways, the 5 organs, etc? If that is true, then hormonal conditions begin to be addressed by healing the whole person through the use of diet; perhaps Reiki?; use of herbs along with diet to correct yin/yang imbalances; meditation; breathing exercises; changes in lifestyle; etc. As a system isn't it pursuing somewhat of the same goals as traditioal Taoism as well as being an outgrowth of some of the more traditional Japanese religious paths?
