Guest guest
Can anyone please tell me how long it takes for a noticeable difference in anxiety levels to occur when taking Kava Kava? I have been taking 250 mg 3xs a day with a minimum of 75 mg Kavalactones for 10 days now. Guest guest
Paulissa, I am not familiar with Kava Kava so can't help you on that one but when I think of "calming one down" I think of Lobelia or Valerian. When I use these I notice a difference immediately. What are you trying to handle specifically? Guest guest
Paulissa, I use Kava Kava for anxiety on an as-needed basis. I do not take it regularly. I have found that two 00 capsules work best for me. I make my own capsules (grinding the root as finely as possible in a coffee grinder and packing very firmly into the gel caps). The 00 size gel caps hold close to 500 mg each of the kava. Bear in mind that this is not a standardized extract, but the whole root, and that I weigh close to 200 pounds. I do not experience any sleepiness from this dose. The kava tends to smooth out the jitters and help me relax, and I generally notice the effect within 20 to 30 minutes. Everyone's physiology is different, of course. David Hoffman recommends 100 to 200 mg of kavalactones per day if using a standardized preparation on a daily basis. If I find that I need help with sleeping, I use a combination of kava and valerian. Valerian is great at bedtime, but might make you sleepy during the day; it is the natural form of the chemical RX Valium. SAM-e has mood lifting qualities, helps me with sleep, and also helps joints and the liver. I've been taking it for a year and a half for Fibromyalgia, and it has helped a lot. Have you had your thyroid levels checked? An imbalanced thyroid can produce feelings of anxiety, heart palpitations, and depression, as it controls all the other hormones.
