Guest guest
ALERT * ALERT * ALERT * ALERT * ALERT * ALERT CALL TO ARMS The CS (Committee Substitute) for Senate Bill#780 is scheduled to be heard on the Senate Floor tomorrow beginning at 9am. It is the 6th bill on the calendar. The Florida Senate will be voting and the bill needs to have a majority vote to pass. There are 44 members in the Senate. We need everyone to contact the members below from their own areas! We need everyone who can, to contact their friends and families throughout the State and get them to call or fax to these Senators asking their support for this bill!!! If this bill passes, every parent in the State of Florida will have the right to refuse any of the following school health services under the School Health Services Act. .. Health appraisal; .. Records review; .. Nurse assessment; .. Nutrition assessment; .. A preventative dental program; .. Vision screening; .. Hearing screening; .. Scoliosis screening; .. Growth and development screening; .. Health counseling; .. Referral and follow-up of suspected or confirmed health problems by the local county health department; .. Meeting emergency health needs in the school; .. County health department personnel to assist school personnel in health education curriculum; .. Referral of students to appropriate health treatment, in cooperation with the private health community whenever possible; .. Consultation with a student’s parent or guardian regarding the need for health attention by the family physician, dentist, or other specialist when definitive diagnosis or treatment is indicated; .. Maintenance of records on incidents of health problems, corrective measures taken, and such other information as may be needed to plan and evaluate health programs; except, however, that provisions in the plan for maintenance of health records of individual students must be in accordance with s.228.093; .. Health information which will be provided by the school health nurses, when necesssary, regarding the placement of students in exceptional student programs and the reevaluation at periodic intervals of students placed in such programs; and .. Notification to the local nonpublic schools of the school health services program and the opportunity for representatives of the local nonpublic schools to participate in the development of the cooperative health services plan. The points to bring up when speaking or faxing the Senators are: As parents, we must have the right to choose what medical care is best for our children. No one should have the right to administer any health services to our children without our knowledge and consent. It is very simple. Don’t get into all the health services above; just stick with the speaking points; you don’t want them to be alerted or confused in any way as this will be detrimental. You just want to have them look at the logic of parents being able to have their say and be responsible when it comes to their children. The information above is for your own knowledge of what the bill will do if it passes into law. You should be able to clearly see how this will affect psychiatrists as it will cut right across their years of infiltration into the school system.
