> Jamie,

Sorry to hear of your problem. It must be very hard in Arizona.

I have the same problem -always have. It has gotten worse as I get

older- but was always told It's due to low melotonin production. I

burn horribly with just tiny exposure to the sun. I also feel

faint, like I am going to throw up and get a headache. I usually sleep

alot after longer then an hour in the sun at a time. A couple of

things I do for myself are- I wear a hat and as much clothing as I

can- since sunscreen doesn't help the symptoms.

If you find out any information on what you think The cause it- let

me know please.I hope you find a solution. June

While as far as I know I've never had any neurological problems, I myself

used to get ill from the heat and sun, and know many endurance and distance

trail riders who have suffered the same.

I started on mega-doses of Vitamin C (accidentally, by misreading an

article my brother sent me on the subject of heat problems) and that nipped

the worst of it. Then later on I started taking a combination of Vitamin C

and electrolytes *before* I started riding (or working in the sun), which

totally fixed everything. I have recommended this to various horse people

who were having problems and it has always been a winner.

By the way, if it's OK to use product names on this list, what I used and

always carry with me, even when riding, is Emergen-C, available at any drug

or health food store. I imagine that other electrolyte/Vitamin C

combinations might work too but I haven't tried them. The Emergen-C is a

powder conveniently packaged in little foil squares that you rip open and

add to water. It's fizzy, tastes OK and you get fast results.

Being low on essential fatty acids will make your skin burn easier.

Flaxseed oil from the refridgerated section of the Health Food Store is an

excellent source of these as is raw salmon, which I like in Lomi lomi salmon

my new favorite hawaiian dish.

Lomi Lomi Salmon

Yield: 4 servings

1 lb salt salmon

5 large ripe tomatoes

1 medium yellow onion; chopped

8 green onions

I usually scoop the tomato insides out with a large melon baller

attempting to keep the outside shell of the tomato as intact as

possible. Dice the removed insides and place the diced tomatoes

and their shells in the refrigerator while proceeding with the

recipe. Soak the salt salmon after cleaning. Change the soaking

water occasionally to drain off most of the salt. After 3 to 5

hours of soaking remove all of the skin and the bones. Cut the

salmon into small pieces and placed in a bowl. Add the diced tomatoes

and also add the yellow onion which has been chopped into fairly

small pieces. Cover the mixture with ice cubes until ready to serve.

Chop the green onions very small and place them on top of the tomato

mixture that you will place in the tomato shells to serve. Just as

you serve the shells add a little crushed ice.

OR for Quick Lomi Salmon you can add diced raw salmon to your favorite

salsa!

I live in Australia where theres plenty of heat and

sun just about everywhere. A naturopath called Ian

White has discovered a flower essence which can help

greatly and has helped thousands to overcome

stress, trauma and physical symptoms present and past,

with heat, sun and fire, even including Xrays . It is

called Mulla Mulla, and I know they are available in

America because he gives workshops all over the

world. I really recommend the essences, you just take

a few drops under the tongue 2 or 3 times a day. There

is a website but I havnt got it bookmarked but you

could look it up under Australian Bush Flower Essences

or Ian White, or just Mulla Mulla. It may be too much

of a trip for you to find some where you live, but I

recommend it if you can get it. ( I have done a 2 year

diploma in Flower Essence therapy -not with Ian- and I

know they are effective)

Jamie,

Could it be a reaction to any herbs you recently started taking? St.

John's Wort, etc.?

PS Speaking from someone who has fainted several times, i say that if

you feel dizzy/numb/faint please sit down right where are at, bec. the

fall can do more damage that the fainting can. I have had to sit on

floors in public and it's embarrasing, but I didn't have to suffer a

concussion if I fell. lol (speaking from someone who had a slight

concussion when i fainted) and before I learned to sit down beforehand.

Take good care and have a great day.

No side effect from herbs either..... I have had this for 2 years all on

it's own!

I wish it were that darn easy.

I haven't actually blacked out yet it just feels like I will sometimes.

Thanks for your concern,

4 to 10 tablespoons of UDO's Oil or Flaxseed oil should handle it for you. Try it and let me know. It certainly worked for me.

[herbal remedies] heat & sun

Hi everyone,I would like to know if anyone has any ideas for me. I get ill from theheat and the sun.... this never happened to me before a few years ago when Ihad some serious neurological problems... I have overcome most of theneurological problems but still I can not tollerate the heat for any amountof time.I was thinking about the possibility of the hypothslsmus <sp> gland in thebrain maybe since it helps regulate body heat and hormones.Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to overcome this horribleproblem? I live in the Arizona desert so it is a big problem for me.Thanks & God Bless,Jamie
