Guest guest
Doc, do you know anything about eyes whirling? I know it can be a precursor to a migraine. I've never had a migraine that I know of and I don't think that is what this is about. I do have less than 20/20 vision. One eye in particular is bad; the other compensates for it. I don't wear glasses or contacts--don't believe they're necessary in most cases. The first episode of visual disturbance (it was like the starry, blurry effect you get after staring at the sun) was on Dec. 12, 2000, after a weekend of staying up really late and watching 5 videos over a span of 3 or 4 nights. I'm not used to watching any tv at all and suggested this as a cause when I was at the doctor's. He seemed to agree that it was eye stress/overuse. He saw no evidence of pressure on the veins to the brain, besides my not having any other symptoms to suggest a growth. He wanted me to watch it, however, for the next month and if symptoms increased, then we'd need to be concerned (and he told me what herbs to take if it turned into a migraine). My first experience of eyes whirling was in the morning on Feb. 22, 2001. This was the second episode of visual disturbance. Shortly after this, I started taking 1/4 t. cayenne a day (90,000 heat units). After three days of this treatment, I could see beautifully, and my eyes felt completely relaxed without any stress whatsoever. I was not surprised by this attack since I had liberally been spending more time than usual on the computer. Note: After a week, or so, there were many days that I did not take any cayenne because I was feeling so good and just didn't get around to it. So I was not taking it consistently a week or two before this last episode, sometimes missing two or three days at a time. (I did also start taking 150,000 IU of beta carotene, and Dr. Christopher's Herbal Eyebright during this time, again, not always consistently.) The third experience started yesterday morning, March 17. I jumped up at 3:00 am to check the fire in the woodstove. It was fine. When I laid back down in bed, my eyes started whirling. I propped myself up, hoping that elevating my head would help. Although this attack was milder than the one I had last month, it continued throughout the morning, as I tried to get more sleep, for every time I turned my head to the side, and when I finally rolled over onto my stomach in the morning, the whirling returned. I took 1/8 t. cayenne at 3:00 am, in the morning, and again at night. This attack did surprise me, for I was not aware that I had spent too much time on the computer, though I had watched several tv programs in the past week, when I had not been watching any for several weeks. This morning, March 18, I experienced a little bit of mild whirling. My head has continued to feel a little funny, bordering dizzy, all morning. I took 1/8 t. cayenne. At 11:30 am, I laid down on the floor to rest, and immediately my eyes began to whirling. It stopped shortly and I began feeling pretty good just laying there. When I stood up, 15-20 minutes later, they whirled again. I believe this is all related to overuse of the eye, eyestrain. I do some of the recommended eye exercises to strengthen them or to increase circulation to the eye. I believe I can help it to get better. But I'm a little worried too. I have no other symptoms that might suggest a growth on the brain. But why would the whirling happen when I lay down or rise, and not when I walk around at this point? It takes weeks to get in to see my doctor, and I've already been intimidated by the receptionist(s) when I tried to get an emergency appt. for my daughter recently, so I'm hesitant to make that call(although I love the doctor!). I forgot what were the two herbs he suggested for migraine. Do you think I should take those? What would you suggest I do, at this point, Doc? Thanks so much for any help you can give, Cheryl (who suffered writing this letter because I really need some advice or encouragement)
