Guest guest
Hmmmm. Tough call. If they were totally dry, I'd say you were just smelling the herbs themselves. Wilted herbs are not dry and still might have too much moisture in them which would eventually cause the mixture to mold as moisture (water) and oil do not mix. Does it smell moldy at all??? As I said, it's a tough call especially when dealing with herbs as most of them have a strong odor to begin with. I have a few hard bound rules of thumb that I use at all times. #1. If it isn't labelled, it gets thrown out. #2. If I can't distinguish what's in a bottle by smell, it gets thrown out. (in other words, it has to smell the way all the other ones do of the same formula) #3. When in doubt, throw it out. (I once threw out probably my best batch of Saw Palmetto tincture because it tasted and smelled somewhat like soap. Several days later, I discovered that the highest quality Saw Palmetto tastes just that way and that my earlier batch was made from inferior grade seeds). Live and learn ;o) #4. From that experience I added, "Know before you go". Hope this helps hon, but the decision is ultimately yours.
