Hi Elaine! I'm just jumping in here....haven't been keeping up with this list lately....but I wanted to say that I have tons of black walnuts every year. If someone would tell me how to preserve it (i.e. make tincture), then I could offer this for trade. I could also send unhulled black walnuts if that would be easier. I know the gooey black stuff under the skin get worms easily, so that's my concern.

Thanks for any help,

Cheryl

Cheryl--I know nothing about Making anything from Black Walnut Hulls, since we don't have them here, but I would be so pleased if someone who has done it before would say something encouraging about it.

I'm interested in your black walnut hulls Cheryl. (Always looking for sources, "trade or buy" :o)

Usually the worms don't get into them until they've lain on the ground for a season or two as the vermifuge capabilities of Black Walnut keeps 'em away. The best time to harvest them is right after they've fallen and that is when they are the most potent.

Let me know.

No secret hon :o) After the Black Walnuts fall to the ground, you can take the nut from the hull, eat it after you crack it open but save the hull. That's where all the goodies are. You can dry them or start making a tincture right away. When dry, they are quite hard but submit to a Vita-Mix quite readily and grind to a fine powder which you can then mix in a 100 proof Vodka mixture to get one awesome remedy. It's an incredible Vermifuge, loaded full of organic Iodine, and is great for skin conditions (eczema, impetigo, etc, etc.) The tincture can be applied externally and/or taken internally for best results.

Hope this helps.

Elaine,

I too, have black walnuts each year and I was told also, to tincture

them only when fresh, when the hull is

green/greenish-brown and firm. You use the outer hulls. Smash or chop

them up and put into probably 100 proof alcohol.

Good for fungus, athletes foot, ringworm, finger/toenail fungus, thrush,

yeast infections and internal parasites.

I havent made this myself yet, have to wait until september when they

fall.

They do get the worms in them when they sit on ground and get wet from

rain.

Hope this helps.

Take good care and have a great day.

Love,

Renee and Jerry

Sure, Doc, you're welcome to all the black walnuts you want. The method sounds simple--thanks so much!

You can't very easily take the shell out though for a while at first, if I remember right. They have to dry out a little or age, or something like that before you can get the hull off. I would be sending them to you whole, of course, but I think they're much heavier in the beginning, which would make shipping cost a bit more.

Renee and Jerry wrote:

Does this mean you use the skin only, not the black stuff inside? Do you scrape off the black stuff?

Elaine, don't worry.....I'll pick them up before they get any worms in them!

I'm so anxious to do this now! Thanks so much for your help.

Cheryl I live in Canada and would just love to get some of those black walnut hulls.

I know it is easy to do the tincture. The recipe is in Hulda Clark's book. you can do it with vodka. or water. if you use water you can only keep a little out for not more than 3 days. Also this person told me to redo the vodka and black walnut the second time and that made it double strength.

I have tried to get the Black walnuts up here but cannot find anyone up here to get them from

Ruella (Ruth in Western Canada)

Yeah, it is exciting to learn something new Cheryl. I remember someone giving my dad some black fuzzy things dad said was black walnuts. We couldn't crack them for anything. Serious. So hopefully this will not be as traumatic!!
