Guest guest
Hi, I am in midterms and projects for college so I am not always very prompt (or up to date hehe) with group happenings…welcome new moderators! This is one fantastic group…I have learned so much! I didn’t know about herbs 7 years ago and when I was diagnosed with this, the doctor put me on a full vitamin program. From Prescription for Nutritional Healing by James F. Balch MD and Phyllis A Balch CNC (masters in nutrition) pg 211, 212 This is a very practical book to have, I have found. I tell you I do not miss having my hair drop out anymore via handfuls. I followed this program in great detail for 11 months and found I was doing very well by then. Now, I avoid anything OTC etc that says problem with thyroid disease and as long as I do so, I do not have to have all the things on this program daily– and still can feel good. I am now able to add in some things that traditionally with a thyroid problem, I could not. If I am in a very stressed point environmentally, of course, I get a bit more careful and conscientious hehe. Otherwise, it really has changed my life around…and just made things easier for me. Also the other thing I found recently I have needed is extra all-around digestive enzymes from the time where I couldn’t absorb all my wonderful veggies etc. This is what my dr put me on…(from the book) Very important: multivitamin and mineral complex (as directed on the label), Vitamin B 50mg with extra riboflavin B2, thiamine B1, and B6 pyridoxine (have 3 x daily with meals) Helpful: Brewers Yeast 1-3T daily(has lots of Bs in it), Essential fatty acids (as directed on label)-needed for correct glandular function, lecithin (as directed on the label) –aids in digestion of fats and protects lining of all cells and organs, Vitamin C3000-5000mg daily –especially important in this stressful condition, Vitamin E 400IU (do not exceed this) – avoid excessive amounts of Vitamin E; this may stimulate the thyroid gland, however a small amount is needed. Foods: eat plenty of the following, broccali, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale mustard greens, peaches, pears, spinach, turnips to name a few. AVOID dairy products for at least 3 months. Also avoid stimulants, coffee, caffeine based tea, nicotine and soft drinks. I have a fair amount of knowledge now about what this disease is , what I am trying to come to an understanding of is an effective treatment and diet. In my studies I have found conflicting reports about what is good and what is not, any advice would be greatly appreciated. I definately wish to change my diet and realize how important it is I just dont know how or what the best resources would be to follow. Cost is a factor for me since we have three boys and trying to raise them on 1,000 a month, my ability to work has been greatly reduced over the past several months and it doesnt seem to be geting much better. Any advice would be truly appreciated and helpful. A struggling Soul Robert Stapleton
