Guest guest
Dear June, Actually, I have just found that a species near me of this particular plant - it is commonly called Cuckhold Herb, Beggar's Tick, Spanish Needles, Devil's Pitchfork - is the one mentioned. Will have to eyeball this..... According to Alma R. Hutchens (A Handbook of Native American Healing Herbs) the WHOLE HERB has uses. June's post covers them all . She recommends water being the best solvent but does suggest a tincture " for amenorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea, and some other uterine derangements " An interesting additive is that the russian Moscow University (1963)suggests that 1 tablespoon of the dried leaves in one cupful of boiling water (an infusion) steeped 10 minutes and then strained, when taken I tablespoon eight times a day, will help the metabolism. The leaves apparently keep their natural colour when dried with a specific aroma and an stringent, slightly bitter taste. (Memo: Sweet talk my husband to build the drying racks that he has been promising so I can consolidate the herbs lying around drying and hanging from every conceivable ceiling space) Perhaps this is a hidden slimming agent? ...............Love Penny
Guest guest
I ran across Cockhold and Beggars tick yeaterday while searching. But the picture I found wasn't like the one Elaine sent. I do believe while searching they all where part of the Aster family. The one Elaine sent stated zones 8 to 10- so that leaves me out and I must have some other aster in my flower bed. Will have to wait til it grows so I can do more searching- I think It may be Bur marigold- can't wait for spring!!! Let us know what ya find Penny...
