Guest guest
I Dear Joan, Good post on this subject and I have quoted your last paragraph because I think it is so apt. When we start out making tinctures one tends to try to be SOOOOOOOOO exact and are so concerned if one ingredient is missing but, in many cases, the formula works well if WE USE WHAT IS CLOSE TO HAND!!! Many Herbalists (including Dr, Schultze and Chrispher ) make individual tinctures and combine them when needed for a specific remedy. So many times a Recipe will call for ingredients that are found in other combinations so it makes sense to tincture them seperately and just keep a reserve. However, if you are handling a specific long term problem (like heart or menopause or thyroid problems) it is easier to tincture a specific combination. Also, to be more confusing, sometimes a combination will enhance the individual herbs. For this - we lok to the experience Herbalists or those magic moments when one is, oneself, mixing for a specific person and there is a blinding flash of inspiration!!! ..............................Love Penny .....................just started in 2000 to make my own tinctures and take them and I *finally* realized that there are many ways of making good quality tinctures, many different formulas, and many successful ways of using herbal remedies.....Joan *************************
