Una de gato is in pretty high demand here and fairly pricey; am I right, More Knowledgeable People? :) (I think it was una de gato I saw being pricey, but I need assurance from the rest of you guys who know infinetely more than I do!) LOL

I am talking to a guy(e-mail from a CS list) who is trying to get me 10 pounds of Una de Gato from Peru. When I asked him what the price would be, he said he has no way of knowing. I simply asked him what the cost would be and he said he would order it. If its too costly I told him I won't get it. He said 10# is light. I don't know where I got the number 10 from either!!!

He also told me that the best way to make an extract with it is to use raw apple cider vinegar. Wouldn't this stuff have a nice long shelf life that way?? I've never made anything--can I do this?Try not to bust a gut laughing at me!! I can make better sense talking about chickens than herbs!

Good question Heidi, I too have the same situation. Fortunately, here in Maryland we have organic farmers and late last year I called one and he has been providing me with cracked corn. I have not been able to find a mash but as my chickens free range I am not concerned and they seem to be surviving. All I can suggest is that you contact some organic growers. This is what I wil have to do this Fall because my supplier will not be growing corn (rotating crops). The thought of eating eggs from GM corn etc just about turned my stomach. I haven't used mash for years because of the chemicals.

I have chickens too. (Silly chickens, white-crested black Polish)

Does anyone know where I can purchase organic feed for my little darlings? I have been looking on the internet for years, and have had my local grain store ask there suppliers, all with no luck. I know they make it, I buy organic eggs at the market in the winter.

Call your local Agricultural Dept and ask them who has organis feeds for your chicks. They are very helpful.

There is a huge farm here in Az that only produces Organic foods, hay, feeds, compost, etc

God Bless,

You bring up a good point about the GM corn. I give my girls scratch food (corn & oats) and I am worried about what's in it.

The farmers are doing something with all those thousands of acres Monsanto has sleazed them into planting. And I personally don't want to be a part of it. God there is real evil afoot in the world!

I only have 9 chickens, but they are pets, plus I eat the eggs. I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me where to get good grain for them. The idea of growing and grinding my own corn is just not an option.

My chickens have a really large pen but are not really free ranging because I worry too much about the hawks, the raccoons and of course my own dogs.

Now I will start worrying about what is in my horse's grain.
