Guest guest
Jamie, I'm hoping the nettle I sent over to Penny will turn out to be a good one. My parents think I have totally lost it, sending weeds to be checked out. Gosh I hope Penny gets it before its all shriveled up to nothing or the post office smashes it to death. Maybe we'll all have good medicinal nettles growing nearby. Wouldn't that be great? Guest guest
Jamie, this is the spotted Dead Nettle, in the Mint family, not related to the stinging nettle. Mrs. Grieves does write about several species of dead nettle on her nettles page, however, suggesting that this is a closely related garden variety white dead nettle (Lamium album) and used somewhat as to staunch blood, as a diaphoretic, and in a few other ways. http://www.botanical.com/botanical/mgmh/n/nettle03.html BUT..as I said, it is not related, does not have the properties of stinging nettles. I used to have a lot of this growing in NH...just thought of it as an ornamental groundcover, pretty much. Guest guest
If your nettle can't be identified due to spoilage maybe you could either scan another one or press it flat for shipping, that should keep it! ANyone know the best way to do Plant Pressing for Identification?
