Guest guest
Dear Listees, Most of what you ever need to know on how to make extracts can be found on Michael Moore's site. http://chili.rt66.com/hrbmoore/ManualsMM/HerbTinct3.txt Glycerin does not extract as many constituents as alc. It is used as a sweetener and a preservative. Moore gives portions of alc and water for making tinctures, which are also extracts. The FDA frowns in the use of the word 'tincture'. They have declared that anything with that name is a healer, [and rightly so], so it's classified as a drug. So the rest of us call them extracts, which is a food supplement. If you use glycerin for anything, make sure it is the vegetable grade. When you are using alcohol or water, or vinegar or ?? for extracting herbs, it's called a 'menstruum', that is, that which is being used to get out the properties of a particular herb, resin, root. Different plant parts require different methods of extraction/tincturing and require different menstruums. Hope that helps? Janine www.HerbaTherapy.com Seabuckthorn seed oil on SALE!
