Guest guest
Dear Herbalists, Malinda asked me off list about my home deliveries - I just thought you all might like to have read my reply . so much false data is spread over having babies. In Africa, they just squat down, have the baby and then prepare the supper. As a bona fide European, I just wanted to show that we could do (almost) as well. Dear Malinda, When I had my first baby in England, I had a home delivery - I pulled the baby out and cut the cord and held her on my chest. A midwife stood by to help me. She bathed the baby and ensured that the placenta came out O.K> The second baby I had to have in Hospital as I had a miscarriagebetween the two. It was a very busy hospital and they knew I had done my owndelivery. I think they had me pegged as one of " those " (grin) I was in a room waiting to deliver (I knew the baby was due in a few minutes) so I just held her back and then, with a rather concerned nurse (the doctors were all busy delivering May babies) reached down and pulled her slowly out and held her. With both these two, I did't allow anyone to touch the babies until I had held them on my chest and welcomed them to the world. both of them suckled after their bath. They wouldn't let me cut the cord for the second one.. My third, unfortunately, although she was the easiest with no pain at all during the contractions., I had to have an emergency Caesar with her (due to internal complications) so actually I only delivered two.... At no time did I use any pain killers (except of course with the caesar they had to put me out) I think that birth is a beautiful experience and I enjoyed all three. I did NOT enjoy the aftermath of the Ceaser with the painful stitches etc... I did not find the other two painful. I did find them exhausting and I did have to work (the first one was 7 hours, the second about 3 and the third was gong to be about 4) ,but ,then, I have always been an athlete and into a healthy diet etc........Love Penny
