Guest guest
The herb would be better... The actual pepper... you can dry it and grind it into powder. of chop it up or eat it raw. Habeneros are better than cayenne peppers. Jude, make up some total tonic... it is easy to make and you will get garlic and cayenne and many benefits... check the files.. under DrIanShillington. Guest guest
Cathe, I take my habeneros and dry them and then use a coffee grinder to make them into powder (electric grinder) about $10 at our grocery store (Schnucks)... If you got it from Wild Oats probably is pretty good stuff.... you can grow your own peppers.... Suzi WillowShade40 wrote: Where do you find actual cayenne pepper? I made myself a batch of herbal extract with some ground spice I got at wild oats that seemed very fresh to me. It's a good tasting batch. I hope there is some of the herbal property to it yet ! I can't imagine it could be so strong and not have any benefit. Platinum - Watch CBS' NCAA March Madness, live on your desktop!
Guest guest
Shoot, cayenne isn't any fun until you get into the 300,000 range, which is about where most habaneros come in at. The Red Savin is almost double that at about 577,000. The 250,000 - 300,000 range is the best for use in tinctures or mixed in a fresh vege juice or a cup of slightly hot water. Good stuff for the body in all ways. They have two kinds of cayenne there ( or did when I got mine ): 30,000 hz cayenne and 90,000 hz ( something to do with the heat index -- the 90,000 is paler orange but is MUCH hotter ). I kept some of the 30,000 in my cabinet with my dry spices and it is true that it was not overly hot just nice. The 90,000 hz stuff is so hot if you open the jar and the tiniest infinitesimile bit of the dust escapes ( that you can't even SEE ) into the air, it will be felt in the nose ! I kid you not :-) it is some HOT stuff and if you put more than 1/32 of a teaspoon of it into a large casserole for instance, it would probably be too hot to eat .:-)Peace,CathieIn a message dated 3/17/03 8:49:09 PM Mountain Standard Time, doodlebugboodles writes:
Guest guest
From what I have heard, the seeds do not produce true to form. The Red Savin is a hybrid. I did find a web site that sells the seeds but, as I recall, they mention that they don't produce true to the parent plant. I guess some do and most don't. I will see what I can find on this and let you know. Still haven't found any more on Part I of previous sleuthing you had me doing. I'll keep plugging away. Something is bound to turn up somewhere or that was it in its entirety. We shall see.
