Pearl,

The best thing I have ever found to stop bleeding is shepherd's purse (Capsella

bursa-pastoris). It works internally and externally. The tincture (especially

a strong homemade one, but commercial will do in a

pinch) soaked on a cottonball and then shoved up your nose (oh joy) will work

like a charm. It may sting for a moment, but it will by golly stop the

bleeding.

One of my herbalist teachers had a 3-year-old who was running around the house

while we were having class one day. Mari (the 3-year-old) slipped and fell hard

on the tile floor, biting a sizeable gash into the

side of her tongue. The blood just poured and Mari just screamed. Her mom

calmly went to the cupboard, took out a bottle of shepherd's purse tincture and

poured some into the wide-open screaming mouth of her

child. Mari choked and sputtered for a moment, spat out the goo that was in her

mouth, and was fine - absolutely no bleeding. I was impressed.

Make sure you keep your nose moist -- use saline spray if you have to. Indoor

air can be really dry in the wintertime and that makes nosebleeds far worse. I

hope you're taking some bangup stuff to help get rid

of the cold (cayenne, garlic, echinacea, etc.). And I'm sure you know that the

only way to really get well is to get some rest :-)

I hope you feel better real soon.

terrible time of it these past few days. I have a sinus infection and a sore

had a terrible nose bleed. It was bleeding profusely ! I had to run to my

doctors office ( allergist ) and have him corterize(sp) it

said that the vessels in my nose were so swollen that one broke. From allergies.

Well, after he corterized it he gave me Biaxin to

Tonight..nose bleed all over again...my question...it scares me to death !! How

do I stop this from happening? I pinched off at the

work tomorrow in fear this will happen. I bleed so much. Can someone help me?

Iris, I to had noselbleeds last year 'out of the blue'. They were really bad and I had a hard time getting them to stop. I cured it with salt water snuffed up the nose, ( use the grey Celtic salt if you can) and tea tree oil straight -dip the tea tree oil on a Q-tip and wipe it gently up in the nose. I also put tea tree oil on the outside of my face. I did the salt water in the morning afternoon and evening, followed by the tea tree oil.

About that time I found out how good Cayenne was too! So don't hesitate to use it too! My problem was sinus problems that had been going on for years that I kept under control but never cured. Hope it helps some, Patty

Iris,

Cayenne!

NOSEBLEEDS: A teaspoon of cayenne in a cup of water (hot preferred) taken internally will stop most nosebleeds quickly. In an emergency such as this we use cayenne. As mentioned a teaspoon of cayenne pepper in a glass of water and drunk right down will stop a nosebleed in nearly every instance, by the time you can count to ten. This is not a miracle; it is the principle of the cell stimulant cayenne traveling through the entire blood stream and regulating the pressure so the pressure of the flow is the same in the feet as in the head or any other part of the body. This takes the heavy pressure off the hemorrhaging area and allowing a quick coagulation.

Hi Iris,

Yes cayenne is good for nosebleeds but........ why is he having these nosebleeds? What is the cause of these nosebleeds? What kind of diet does he have? What medications is he taking? Drugs? Alcohol? Living at high elevation? Cayenne will stop a nose bleed dead in its tracks but does not solve the problem. We need much more information if we are going to attempt to solve the problem.

Do you know why? If he keeps having them there is a reason. High blood pressure is one cause, but if it's not that there others, including blood being too thin.

Lavendar essential oil on a tissue paper and held at the nose can help.

Witch hazel on a cloth wiped on the nose helps drying up blood and stopping, as does lemon juice.

However, you need to treat the problem of why he is having nose bleeds, and to treat that you need to know the problem first.

Hospital have investigated. No reason found just very thin skni at

bottom of nose which is prone to damage. Bleeds can last up to 40

mins, he goes into shock and has to have intravenous saline. Has

been hospitalised twice for 3 days. No high blood pressure, in fact

he has low blood pressure. Has low white cell count.
