I have not heard it been said that the inside is

beet red.. I will keep looking....................

....Dear Sharon -

As an " expert " on Oak Galls - I want to clarify this statement. If

the Oak Gall is on a Southern Florida Oak and is an old gall (about to

fall off) then it could be pure white inside.

They are the result of insects or any infection attacking the bark

and ooze out between the bark forming a very hard ball - a very hard

ball- with (when you tap them gently with a small hammer and they fall

off) a small little point on the end where they went into the bark.

They have other atributes as well as being high in Tannin.

...........Love Penny (there are soft ones on other oaks but the

strongest are the hard ones found on English and Florida Oaks)

I live in Ohio and I don't know what kind of Oak tree this is

on...This is really confusing, Maybe I will just use the oak bark...

Thanks for all the info,

Sharon
