Naturally Occurring, Non-Allergenic & Non-Toxic

Non-Steroidal, Anti-inflammatories

 

In this era of genetic engineering and synthetic medications we tend to

forget about the natural remedies that have surrounded us for so many

years…so many thousand years!!!

 

A simple example of this is a substance that, until lately (in the past 8

years) has been poorly understood, and, because of this ignorance, has been

constantly maligned and ignored as a natural anti-inflammatory.

 

This much-misunderstood substance is emu oil and… NO…, it is not

Australia’s answer to " snake oil " .

 

Aboriginal legends passed down from generation to generation have documented

the use of oil rendered from the storage fat of emus by the heat of the sun,

for the treatment of aching joints, skin conditions and open wounds

 

Scientific research in this last eight years supports these claims

originally made by aboriginal witch doctors.

 

An adult emu weighing about 45 kg carries up to 10 kg of body fat, from

which can be extracted some 7-8 litres of thick oil.

 

Pure, unadulterated oil contains triglycerides, a glycerol molecule to which

three fatty acids are bound. Fatty acids are broken into three groups;

saturated, mono-unsaturated, and polyunsaturated. Polyunsaturated and

monounsaturated fats are reactive fats, which are vital for certain chemical

reactions in the body, for the maintenance of good health. Essential fatty

acids are those which cannot be manufactured by the body and must therefore

be acquired by the body through the food we eat, or be absorbed though the

skin. Emu oil contains two of these essential fatty acids: alpha linolenic

(omega 3) and linoleic (omega 6) fatty acids. Amongst other properties,

these omega 3 and 6 fatty acids demonstrate marked anti-inflammatory

properties. Other fatty acids present in emu oil include oleic, palmitic,

and stearic acids.

 

Emu oil contains sterols with HDL-Cholesterol ( " Good cholesterol " ), alpha

Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Beta Carotene (Vitamin A) and collagen, in

significant quantities. Vitamin A and Vitamin E are powerful, natural

anti-oxidants Varying amounts of natural anti-oxidants besides the naturally

occurring Vitamin E and Vitamin A (eg. Carotinoids, flavones) are also

present in the raw oil.

 

Pure emu oil is similar in composition and consistency to our own skin oils.

It is non-comedogenic (doesn’t clog the pores of the skin), absorbs into the

skin, acting as a carrier of active substances, penetrates into the deeper

tissues acting as a remarkable non-steroidal, non-allergic, non-toxic

anti-inflammatory with powerful skin moisturising properties.

 

It is the ideal massage oil.

 

Many sporting bodies in both in the United States and here in Australia are

utilising the powerful anti-inflammatory and tissue repairing properties of

emu oil for the treatment of pain and inflammation present after traumatic

musculoskeletal injury.

 

They were well trailed during the Sydney 2000 Olympics, by athletes in all

disciplines, from all over the world. The attraction, of course being the

non-toxic, anti-inflammatory effect of a product which will not test

positive for any banned substances.

 

Athletes are also using emu oil to treat insect bites from ticks, sandflies

and mosquitoes.

 

Research work both here and in the United States has shown that the carrier

properties of emu oil can be enhanced with the addition of cineols found in

oils from our native eucalyptus trees, which also have strong

anti-inflammatory properties.

With this in mind, proven analgesics, anti-inflammatories and anti-arthritic

remedies were added to the emu oil in the form of naturopathically

formulated herbs of wintergreen (98% methyl salicylate, a well proven

analgesic), Capsicum and Black Pepper (both proven anti-inflammatories),

Rosemary and Ginger oils (used for thousands of years by the Chinese as

anti-arthritic remedies).

1. Capsaicin (Capsicum oil) is used in its concentrated oil form in a

little or no heat, and its action quickly and effectively reduce the pain

2. NSAIDs such as Voltarin and Feldene gels are synthetic preparations,

which build up tissue-toxic levels of breakdown products, and should only be

used for a maximum period of two weeks before they are discontinued. (This

fact is stated on their packaging.) With " Emu Fire Arthritis and Muscle

Aches and Pain Balm " this cream can be used indefinitely, with no side

effects and no tissue-toxic build up.

3. The pain relieving action of the Feldene and Voltarin gel type

preparations, as well as the deep heat rubs such as " Denco Rub " and " Tiger

Balm " , last for between 1 and 2 hours before reapplication. " Emu Fire

to eight hours relief, depending on the severity of the tissue damage and

with arthritic pain, who long for a full night’s sleep without having to get
