Love, Doc Ian "Doc" Shillington N.D.505-772-5889Dr.IanShillington Dear "Doc",I recently received your post and noted that you are an ND. I am currently doing research on postmenopause primarily to help my 84 year old mother for whom, as ofa year ago, I have taken over the role of care takerI found out that my mother has been taking Premarin for over 50years ever since she had a hysterectomy (including her ovaries)! My sister has legal responsibility formy mother's health care and thus has veto power on decisions Iwant to make regarding prescriptions that my mom has been taking. You don't need any prescription for herbal remedies. I was able to convince my sister to let me take my mom off ananti-inflammatory drug that was being given for osteoarthritis ofthe knee and was successful in gradiently withdrawing her, but Ihave as yet not been able to convince my sister to let mewithdraw my mom from the Premarin. My sister is herself a victimof the medicos false data and quick knife (partial hysterectomy, ovaries intact) and currently takes the hormone Estrace. See my attachments on Premarin versus the Female Formula I manufacture and how to wean off Premarin..I believe my sister would respond to an ND and I would appreciateknowing what is your approach to handling post menopause both forsomeone who has had their ovaries removed and for those who havenot. I'm not asking for a diagnosis and prescription for my momand sister, but I would like to know your considerations ingeneral on the subject. I feel that taking Female Horse Piss (Premarin) is detrimental to the health of any woman and there are many, many studies that have indicated that it causes Cancer. The word "Naturopathy" is derived from 3 words. "Nature" (from the Latin: Natus meaning "Birth" or "Cause"). "O" (from the Old English "O" meaning "of"), and "Pathy (from the Greek root "pathos" meaning "disease"). Therefore a Naturopath handles the "Cause of Disease". An Allopath or MD (Medico) handles only the symptom. Usually his handling of the symtom leads to other diseases and the handling of the now new symtoms, and therefore he stays in business. IE. A person has a headache and goes to his medical doctor and is prescibed Aspirin or something stronger. The headache goes away quickly, and everybody is happy right. The patient no longer has his headache and the doctor has the patients money. However, the headache comes back two days later and the doctor is now prescribing Aspirin or the stronger drug for the rest of the person's life, continuing to make money off of this patient and the patient is happy without his headaches until he discovers he now has stomach ulcers and colitis. He is now prescribed Malox or some stronger drug, and he no longer feels the pain from his stomach ulcers and his colitis. Now the doctor is making even more money and the patient is still happy cause his doctor is "looking after him" and after all he's not in pain. A few years go by and he is now diagnosed with colon cancer and his doctor now tells him, this one is really gonna cost him as his insurance doesn't cover all the costs. He gets all kinds of test (usually well over a $1,000 each) and the doctor is now really happy as his pockets are really beginning bulge with cash. The Patient at this time is not too happy as he's really feeling down about his inability to physically function as well as he knows he should... Do you see where this is leading? Lots of money for the Medicos and Death for the Patient. The patient at the beginning should have asked himself one simple question. "Just because an aspirin gets rid of a headache, does this mean that the patient is suffering from an aspirin deficiency???" Not many people seem to be able to operate at this level of Logic and therefore continue to be the victims of the medicos who continue to grow fat. 80% of all headaches are caused by a clogged bowel and can be handled by a simple $22 bowel formula which addresses the cause and not the symptom. Headache gone and no further negative repercussions. One of my goals is to educate my patients well enough so that I never have to see them again (professionally that is).I have done lots of research already and am convinced of theneedless risk (cancer for starters) involved in takingtraditional medical HRT (usually Premarin) , but I am still indoubt about two things. Given the fact that menopause is anatural stage of the biological development of the female humanbody and not a "disease" AND given that even after menopause theovaries and other parts of the body still produce some estrogen(al beit a small percent of the original amount produced) ANDgiven that some women have had there ovaries removed (as my momhas), do you believe in general that in cases like these that itis usually necessary to replace the missing estrogen withsomething? And if the answer to this question is "yes", what isthe optimum replacement for the hormones? Herbs, nutritionalsupplements or "natural" estrogen? The answer is usually "yes" but not always. Some women do well on less hormones when others do not. When the answer is "yes", the optimum replacement for the hormones is always "herbal". Always, always, always. Nutritional supplements also help and a good nutritional program is mandatory, but there are certain herbs which will smooth any woman out hormonally.By "natural" estrogen I am referring to the book "Natural HormoneReplacement" by Dr. Jonathan V. Wright, which says there are"natural" hormones being synthesized from wild yam moleculeswhich are identical in molecular structure to human estrogen andtherefore do not impose the risk that Premarin does (since theyare not horse hormones which are "natural" to horses, but notnatural to nor compatible with humans). He says they are safeeven though there hasn't been clinical studies done to provethis. It makes sense to me that they would be safer than horsehormones. Absolutely, 100% correct!!! There are a few more herbs besides the Wild Yam which will really help as well such as Chaste Tree Berries, and Dong Quai (Angelica). All three of these plus a few more are in my Female Formula.I would very much appreciate any feedback you have on my twoquestions above and, also, since you are so far away from wherewe live here in Portland, Oregon, I wonder if you know of any ND(preferably a woman since my sister is such a female chauvinist)in the general Portland area that I could take my mom and sisterto for a consultation and have the ND make the case for gettingmy mom off of the Premarin and monitor her progress on somethingsafe? I'm sorry, I know of no Naturopath in the Portland area but will put the question to my list to see if I can find one for you. If your sister prefers dealing with a woman and she is connected to the internet, I can definitely connect her with some female naturopaths that are also members of my list. It is a great list and all are very helpful. There is one gal I can think of off hand, who is very familiar with hormone problems and if you wish, I can have her contact you.
