Guest guest
Hey there -- I've got a couple great big white willow trees in my yard and I've finally got up the guts to maybe strip off some bark to use (in the spring, once the sap rises again, I think would be better for the tree). So . . . how do I do it? The whole bark? Just the inner bark? Let it dry and then grind to a powder, or crumble and use in tea? I've never had my own-own willow tree before so I'm at something of a loss :-) Thanks, Laura
Guest guest
> the whole bark, dont powder, just shred (powder looses potency in no time, and should only be done if used right away). Remember only to strip little pieces, and only on one side. A tree that is stripped all the way around, however small a ring, will die...... Yeah, I do know not to girdle a tree. These are pretty big trees (40 feet tall, both of them) so I think I can keep us supplied without damaging the trees :-) > I am pretty sure we DO have willow bark in our files, but if not, you'll find it here, including the harvesting advise Thanks for the links! I'm familiar with the medicinal uses -- it's the harvesting info I was looking for. I figure, the stuff is literally on my doorstep, so I should use it!
